You are paying for time, convenience, necessity (like schools for kids, bringing elderly to doctors etc)
How much you earn, how much you value face, how much you want to split your money with holidays, house, fine dining etc will dictate your choice of car.
 
That is why a car, typically a necessity in bigger countries to get from one place to another, is a status symbol in Sinkieland due to its artificially inflated cost of ownership. ;)

It's like buying a can of soft drink from a vending machine in Sentosa: same product, but it costs $2 at least. Your thirst, your utility (satisfaction) from drinking it remains unchanged.

The average good bike costs $10k but COE 5k.
50% for a piece of paper to LTA.
