Am I not in singapore? The PRC has to integrate to our society or we integrate to their society?

the PRC probably doesn't understand English so he asked the Chinese TS to speak in Mandarin. the TS read too much into it.

There are a lot of Tamil here who doesn't know even how to speak their own tongue properly and doesn't even know even know how to spaek a word of tamil. I have come across elderly Indian woman of Tamil origin, talking to each other in MALAY. I was curious and asked my Indian friends, they told me many of them don't even know how to speak or write Tamil.

So, what if you are Chinese...one assume that the person can speak Chinese?? The PRC working here have to leant to speak at least two of the major languages here, if he was talking to me, I will continue to speak English to him, even though I know Mandarin. :p

i'm surprised why some Singaporean Chinese are so reluctant to speak Mandarin or struggle to have a basic conversation in Mandarin. aren't Singaporean Chinese famous in the Chinese world for their bilingual education? if i am PRC, i will also assume the Chinese in Singapore are proficient in speaking Mandarin too.

the PRC employee preferred to hear Mandarin. i will speak Mandarin to him, no problem at all. it is a non-issue.

Why you don't heed to call to "integrate" them:confused:

OK, did you ask your tamil frens why they don't know how to speak tamil? Anyway these tamils have a different story. The local chinese by and large all have the same type of background and experiences. I'm sure the TS in this instance knew how to speak mandarin. He was just trying to be anal. Also let me tell you that there are many foreigners in sg that don't know how to speak english but their own language. Some kelings in here don't know english just their keling language, some indonesians and malaysian malays and lord knows local malays only know how to speak malay. Now do you think the local kelings will actually insist they speak english when they know how to speak tamil and malay? Comeon i don't think so.

It's only the chinese that try to be anal about it. OK if they dunno how to speak mandarin that's fine BUT most of the time it's not the case. It's them just trying to show case some sort of cultural superiority or putting on some assholery to other chinese ppl. Nowadays alot of local chinese don't even have the balls to fight any foreigner except a foreign chinese.

Seriously local chinese only know how to put down their own race and ppl and culture and bow their heads down like cowards when faced with indons, thais, burmese, ang mohs and malays etc.

watch how you label indians as ''kelings''. u motherfucking bastard son. im still finding out who u are.

Sometimes I pretend not to know mandarin when an ah tiong asks me something.
Sometimes when an india ah neh or a pinoy asks me something, I pretend not to know english.
Some of my friends who know my command of both languages say that I'm not pretending.

You in England meh, how come you only want to speak English. No wonder the ang mohs think they own Singaporeans.

It's not about the ability to speak Mandarin - I can speak it fluently.

But the way things are now, sometimes it is fun to troll those PRC assholes and pretend I don't know the language.
Besides, how presumptuous of these PRCs to assume that people who look Chinese automatically know the Chinese language.
I could be a Viet, a Thai, a Jap, a Korean.

And how dare you Tiongs do your dead-end F&B job without knowing how to speak a word of English.
操你妈的逼!:oIo:

I have a Hong Kong friend who only speaks Cantonese and English. Shakes his head whenever someone speaks Mandarin to him. Wanna work in Sg, should have a basic understanding of English at least.

Cheers!

hi there

1. bro, bingo!
2. i met many ah tiongs & mei meis down under.
3. yes, they tried speaking to me in mandarin or what.
4. why should i respond when i have the option to ignore such specimens.
5. the aussies detest such things there hoh!

we know that they are PRCs who don't bother to pick up a new language like english, that's why we speak english to spite them.

if it were local chinese hawkers, we will be happily speaking hokkien, teochew, cantonese and mandarin with them.

let me give an analogy: when you look for a job in s'pore, generally speaking, aren't the job interviews conducted in english??
