經常在電影看見碰一下就被「石化」的魔法，竟在現實中也有！東非大裂谷(Great Rift valley)東部與肯亞邊界處一座鹹水湖「納特龍湖」(Lake Natron)又被稱為「地球上的冥湖」，因為湖水有著強鹼性及高溫，幾乎沒有生物能在裏頭生存，甚至碰到湖水，很快就會鈣化變成「雕像」，宛如乾屍。

根據外媒報導，這座「冥湖」水深約3公尺，水溫高達50度，附近火山灰飄到湖裡，形成一種「泡鹼」的天然化合物，成分近似於火山灰，其中包含的礦物質和古埃及人用於製作木乃伊的乾燥劑類似，可以讓湖水的酸鹼值在ph9-ph10.5之間，幾乎直逼強鹼的標準。

因此納特龍湖幾乎沒有生物能在裏頭生存，不過由於湖面平靜，經常有許多鳥類等動物會被反射混淆，一頭栽進湖中，長期下來，碳酸鈉結晶讓動物身體鈣化，以原本的姿態死亡，並風乾成雕像宛如乾屍般，可說是最美麗卻致命的石化湖！

The magic that is often "Petrified" when I see it in the movie is actually in reality! Lake Natron, a saltwater lagoon on the eastern border of the Great Rift valley and Kenya, is also known as the "water lake on earth" because the lake is strongly alkaline and hot, with few organisms. Can survive in the inside, even touch the lake, and soon calcification becomes a "statue", like a dead body.

According to foreign media reports, the "Lake Lake" is about 3 meters deep and the water temperature is as high as 50 degrees. The nearby volcanic ash floats into the lake, forming a "salt" natural compound with a composition similar to volcanic ash, which contains minerals. Similar to the desiccant used by the ancient Egyptians to make mummies, the pH of the lake can be between ph9-ph10.5, almost the same as the standard of strong alkali.

Therefore, there is almost no living thing in Natron Lake. However, due to the calmness of the lake, many animals such as birds are often confused and reflected. They are planted in the lake. In the long run, sodium carbonate crystallizes the animal body and dies in the original posture.
