PAP gave them jobs so their gov will keep quiet for our lack of democracy. simple as ABC.

before the recent crash F15 has a perfect record. It still hold the record for not being getting shot down during dogfight.

seriously, it is the best fighter until US release the F22 for overseas sale.

F15 and Su30 . Face off who will win in real fight?

Sinkies!

Thanks for buying second-class American fighter jets for a first-class price!

Want to get F22?

Wait long long, islanders!

Support US economy. Maintenance and spare spare still need US manufacturer.

Of course is political. Even if Russia or China comes out with a more advanced model and cheaper in price, Singapore will still buy from Unlce Sam...

Its a waste of money ($1.4 billion X 2) and not entirely for political reasons. Mostly for corruption reasons and also for paranoia reasons.

If there wasn't a F-35 in the making, the F-15SG would have been a very capable aircraft which i think is still overkill since many of its strike systems can be used on the F-16 platform. Our neighbours though have not been idle - SU-30s, MIG-29 and F/A 18

The F-15SG is our big stick. What Old Goat is trying to send the message to the leaders of ASEAN is that we can strike u with great precision in your capital, your important installations, any any other targets we dim fit and in any weather. A strike package containing our KC-135 for refuelling, AWACS (this is why we switch to jet AWACS) for threat identification and warning, and the F-15SGs would be almost unstoppable. Do we need it to play defence, no. Our F-16 and even F-5Es combined with our ground and airbased, satellite based radar and surveillance systems will more than be able to solve any SU-30, Mig-29 and F-18 problem.

I wasn't suprised when they announced that the F-15 was chosen as the replacement for the A-4, a little disgusted somewhat since it seems to be overpriced. 2.4 Billion USD for 12+12 including armaments. ? Best part is the AMRAAM is to be stored with the US until war breaks out, then buy it for what? :D

The Rafale and the Eurofighter Typhoon offered seems to be a better deal for the buck and they were offering to throw in the source code too. They would seem to be a better interim measure before the F-35s become available to RSAF. I think we got pretty screwed with the F-15SG package as the next upgrade in the F-15 family is the F-15SE Silent Eagle.

On the plus side, we weren't totaly screwed since they come with the AESA Radars

Artillery 120mm and above can hit any Singapore target from JB so from Batam. How on earth any missile can counter artillery shell?
Indon and Malaysia just need 10 set of artillery gun keep on shooting that will shit out all paper general.:D

Well, if you think the F-15 was a replacement for the A-4. than I have some land in Tekong I want to sell you. The A-4 replacement story was a cover story fed to the public, and gullible individuals. Buying a F-15 SG to replace the A-4 is like saying I am buying a brand new Ferrari to replace my 40 year old Toyota Corolla. A real replacement for the A-4 would have been an ac in the class of the Su-24 Frogfoot, or the A-10 Warthog. Not the F-15SG. The A-4 was really a dirt mover after all.

Also if you think the AMRAAM is stored in the US, that's old info. They have been released to the RSAF a few years ago, I believe storage is in Tengah. dassault was the company that offered the most offsets for the tech transfer and co-manufacturing. Typhoon was the plane that most impressed the RSAF especially their supercruise capability. Boeing offered nothing in terms of production subcontracting and tech transfer. DSTA has had a poor track record for negotiating these deals. They did not screw us, we screwed ourselves for even buying these planes in the first place.

US know that Sg will buy USA made fighter jet. How to bargain?
SAF only acting compare Rafale, Eurofighter. In the end lan lan also buy F16 and F15.
Malaysia on the other hand have both made in US and Russia plane. But the deal package also over price 2~3 times >> because someone pocket the money from the deal.
China even smarter try to co-produce Su27 in the end most of the part using China made. Now also selling Su30 spare part to Malaysia.
Very soon world will be using China fighter jet because cheaper .
