A Taiwanese tourist says that she encountered a pervert-ghost while she was in Singapore.

Her ghostly encounters happened in a Singapore hotel. While she was sleeping during her final night at the hotel, she felt her pants being pulled off and her thighs being pinched. She was horrified when she woke up and found her thighs full of blue-black bruises and pinch marks.

The "harassment" did not stop even when she returned to Taiwan. She continued to feel herself being pinched every night and acquire new bruises every morning. She suspects the ghost followed her back to Taiwan from Singapore.

Past Stories: Most unlucky day of the Ghost Festival

A Fengshui Master says that 15 August is the most unlucky day in the Seventh Month of the lunar calendar.

Fengshui Master Hong Wei Liang says that the date clashes with the Seventh Month resulting in "bad" energy. The day is known as the "Day of Breaking".

According to the master, these are the things to look out for during the Seventh Month. Those who belong to the sign of the Monkey under the Chinese Zodiac should pay special attention to these "guidelines".

- Be careful with what you say, and refrain from scolding anyone. Wandering spirits may take offense at your words and mistake you for scolding them.

- Avoid speeding. (inSing editors: You should avoid speeding for the other 11 months too.)

- Avoid peeing or spitting at the roadside. (inSing editors: You should not be doing this at all!)

- Do not step over or worse, step on offerings for wandering spirits.

On 15 August, the most dangerous and unlucky day, you can wear red to "block negative energies" and reach home by 5pm to minimise any chances where you may meet wandering spirits.

The Taoists believe that the gates of hell open during the Seventh Month of the lunar calendar. Many believe that wandering spirits are everywhere during this month. Taoists often make offerings to these spirits to "keep them happy" so they won't cause trouble.

The full-month affair culminates on the 15th of the Seventh Lunar Month as the Hungry Ghost Festival.

Luck and Fengshui are very important in the entertainment industry.
Before each movie or drama commences filming, actors and the crew would make offerings and pray for good luck. This is due to the belief that ghosts love entertainment and often hang around to watch during film shoots.
This may be why actors often cite ghostly encounters during shoots, especially when filming ghost movies!

In my culture, we don't really have ghosts. The more superstitious among us believe in spirits. If I see a Catholic spirit, I would be sure to wish him well and shake his hands.

But if I see a Chinese speaking Taoist/Buddhist spirit, I would be quite alarmed, as more than likely, he will try to either get his friends to engage in a fight with me, try to burn down my house or scam me by selling me fake goods.

New maid stabs herself in neck

A maid is suspected of being possessed on the first day of the Ghost Month yesterday.

The 29-year-old Filipino maid is two days into her new job when she stabbed her own neck with a knife.

Prior to the gruesome (and no doubt painful) deed, the maid had complained many times about being "watched".

She had just been brought to her new employer at Blk 183, Stirling Rd, when she began saying she was being "watched". Yesterday evening, her employers found her sitting in a corner of the kitchen, unresponsive to their calls.

When the employers went to the maid, they were shocked to discover that she had stabbed a knife into her throat. Before them, the maid shuddered and the knife fell to the floor. An ambulance was immediately summoned and the maid is now warded in an intensive care unit.

The police have confirmed that a report was lodged on this case, but declined comment as it is under investigation.

Local celebrity Hong Junyang tells of his ghostly encounters during the time when he was trying to break into the Taiwanese showbiz scene.

At that time, his record company, Ocean Butterflies had arranged for Junyang to stay with fellow artistes Ah Du and Lin Yu Zhong in an apartment at Nei Hu.

Junyang had just woken one morning at around 8am when he saw a shadow flit by, immediately after, his whole body was pressed down on his bed. At this point, he started hearing the sounds of children playing.

"There was something jumping on me, I kept struggling and trying to cry out but I couldn't move or make a sound!"

As Junyang usually sleeps with his phone beside his pillow, he tried to grab it to call Ah Du for help. At that point, something pushed his hand away and even "kicked" his phone off the bed.

After struggling for more than ten minutes, he finally managed to cry out. He told "it" off angrily, "Stop playing!"

Later on, Junyang told his colleagues about the incident. He was shakened by their explanation. They told him that the shadow was actually a foetus spirit.

Celebrities continue to share their ghostly encounters!

Local actor Elvin Ng spent Christmas in San Francisco, USA last year. On the way back, he stopped by Bangkok and stayed briefly at a friend's home.

On his return at New Year's Eve, he and a friend took a short cut through a deserted backyard to get to the main road. Along the way, the strap on his backpack caught on a door and off-balanced Elvin was "pushed" into a pond.

Elvin twisted his elbow in the fall and had to bear with the pain while rushing for his plane. The injury took a month to recover.

After his return to Singapore, he was contacted by his Thai friend.

His friend's maid had heard about Elvin's fall, and wanted to ask him if he saw "the white figure".

According to the maid, a white figure often appears in the backyard near the pond. She also hears weird noises at night and believes that spirits dwell in that backyard.

Elvin recounts another brush with the supernatural at Genting Highlands.

Many years ago, he stayed with a friend in a hotel room in Genting. When he was using the toilet, there were suddenly weird noises from outside the toilet door.

He dashed out of the toilet and saw the ceiling panel located between the toilet door and the main door, flapping open and close with a weird noise.

At that time, he thought there was a thief in the room, so he and his friend starting shouting toward the ceiling panel. The louder they shouted, the faster the ceiling panel flapped open and close!

The two called the hotel reception and soon two security guards came to check.

When the two men saw the ceiling panel still opening and closing by itself, they murmured "Wind..." before scooting away as fast as they could!

Elvin says, "There wasn't any wind and the curtains weren't even moving!"

The two friends quickly moved to another room.
