Visiting Varanasi

U seriously wont want to see half naked Ah Mah bathing in that river. This was just a day trip so I can't be bothered to write too much about it especially since I go there all the freaking time; although India being India I ran into a lot of stupid things. One of which was during the flight back to Delhi. At the Delhi domestic airport, the plane stopped about 20m in front of the airport entrance. Instead of making us walk all of 20m to the airport, they loaded all of us onto a bus, driver 100m down the road, U-turn, drive another 100m back the same way we came and stop at the same spot to let us off!!!! Incredible India!!!! Maybe next time if I post something like that again I'll write something for U

kek lengs what what do you expect from these retarded shit skins?

Pai Seh if this one is Pang Tang. One of the pics that really make me rethink about life is the work of Kevin Carter who took a pic of a dying girl and vulture. Was depress for sometime after seeing this pic. The photographer committed suicide later.
Dun think too much...there r so much happening ard us we do not like 2 c yet powerless 2 do anything...

That photo won a prize i didn't know he got so affected by it.

i think its because it creates an extra job.

U want "creating Jobs" here's one for U. On my way to the hotel in Delhi. The hotel was built along one of the main expressway. Instead of having a signboard permanently erected along the expressway, they had 1 guy standing on the road divider of a very busy expressway, holding up a sign to point to the hotel!!!!

haha that must take the cake!! But i feel sorry for the guy. Short term he gets a job but in the long run i think it is bad for his health.

I usually post most of the stupid things I come across on Facebook. The problem is the stupid stuff come at such high frequency, I can't keep up.

Here's another one. Just in case you are wondering what you're looking at, this is the OUTSIDE of my hotel room. It's at a remote part of India, the hotel is the best hotel in town, mainly coz it's the ONLY hotel in town

did you ever find out what that latch on the outside was for ?

The door has 2 latches. 1 outside and 1 inside, it doesn't use a conventional door lock. When U leave the room, U are expected to lock it up using that latch. Obviously no one mentioned to them that you can actually bolt up the door while someone is still inside

ah ...ok. I too have lots of pics and stuff on India but i have not posted cos its not very flattering. Perhaps these guys will improve soon but i doubt it.

maybe not now or in the near future but who knows much further on. They have good potential too like Indonesia , China and Vietnam.

They need to address some serious first though. You may not like them very much but in reality you cant turn a blind eye to their potential.

india and flattering don't go together.

China despite it's insanely high level of corruption, still manage to get things done as long as the Central government deems it needs to be done. India is being drag down by democracy, and it can be REALLY ridiculous at times. Take for example the state of Andrea Pradesh. Hyderbad the capital of that state is the 2nd biggest IT city in India after Bangalore. They've been having major problems with power supply to the city recently. Not that power was never a problem, in fact having black outs 3 times a day is very common. The problem for them however is some parts of the state wants to break off into their own state and the power station workers stop working in protest because they happen to work in the part that wants to break off. All this because some politicians wants more power and convince their supporters on a need to create a new separate state.

Another major problem is the ridiculous amts of bureaucracy involve in that country. I have another example. The city of Nagpur where my office is based in. We own a plant in one of the suburbs. On the way from office to the plant we need to go across a train crossing. There is always a huge traffic jam at the train crossing coz the trains pass the road every 15min. To get around this, they started constructing a flyover. First time I was there, I looked at it and told my driver, that's not so bad, it looks almost completed. My driver told me they took 6 years to get that far and the work had stopped. The contractors are complaining they will not complete the thing coz they were not paid and the government officials stated they are not going to pay coz the thing isn't completed. Somewhere along the way the railway ministry stepped in and told the both of them they are not suppose to build a flyover there. That was 2 years ago, they finally completed the thing when I went in Dec. Compared to SG, we built a similar one in terms of both size and length along Robinson Road to accommodate the construction of the downtown line. Ours took only a couple of months to complete.

And I haven't even started on Corruption. India Road projects. In India, the quality of the roads are so bad that they get damaged after every monsoon season so they need to repair the same freaking roads every year. Basically 20% of the project profit will be split among the ministers, politicians, village head or whoever is involved.

A more ridiculous case from India involves a state forestry minister who was suppose to take care of the local nature reserve. Instead of protecting the place, he opened a logging company to chop down the trees inside the nature reserve. The reporter who tried to exposed his deeds was killed by the local mafia hired by that minister.

And for those of you who think that democracy, strong opposition and free press will deter corruption, go work in India for a while. I'm pretty sure you will change your mind

the West gave India Democracy intended for good but so far joyless. But it also gave them English which is a great advantage to them vis a vis China.

Yeah sure they do have potential. That's just a pc way of praising them. Mind you they say that for almost every 3rd world country out there. Haiti has potential too. Perhaps in 1000 yrs they'll make it and become 1000000000x more arrogant.

No matter how many examples you give of how fucked up india is ppl will always say good things about them and no matter how far china progresses ppl will always bring them down.

Bro..thanks for the write-up and of your experiences. Speaking from experience and I say this on behalf of some members here who has lived and some still living in 3rd world countries, no matter how bad these countries are, you should consider this as part of your life's education. Look at it not has a half-empty glass but as a half-full glass. The experience you received will remain with you through your entire life. Take advantage of your situation, learn how best to deal with the system and the people and you will be the richer for it.

The road less-traveled with many obstacles will turn many 1st worlders off and only those who have been there and know how to deal with these people will be sought after. Being Chinese, China is more attractive to you of course. I find that locals tend to distrust each other and they are more willing to deal woth foreigners. That is to our advantage. If India is like Singapore or other 1st world country, they don't need us, that is for sure. I know that at times we want to face-palm at things we see as downright stupid and compare it with Singapore as to how things are done. That is the attitude taken when Singapore tourists visit such places. As a businessman, we do not make such comparison because we accept this as normal. Once you change your mindset, it will be easier and you won't get so stressed and unhappy when things do not happen the way you think it should.

I hope this make some sense to you and I wish you well in your career.:)

did you ever find out what that latch on the outside was for ?

I guess it has to do with cost savings. Locks are cheaper and they can change easily compared to a standard door knob with keyholes, which can be more costly and cumbersome to change. Of course, this can be a safety hazard, especially when there is a fire and someone with itchy hand just want to play a joke on you.

Totally understand what you mean. It's not just India or other 3rd world countries, virtually everywhere I've been to, Europe, US, Australia, etc, listening to my colleagues from these countries makes one realize all of them suffers from one problem or another. No country is in the world is perfect, most of the time something good about the place directly or indirectly coz something bad to happen. Traveling as I did, I come to appreciate SG. It definitely change my perception of the world and also heavily influences my political views.
