Vincent Wijeysingha's excellent background piece on that strike

This might be start of something and looks like VW is going for broke. I did mention that they sought remand for the 4 chaps because they wanted to find out which external parties were involved. This is highly damaging for the Govt. Looks like the Govt misled the country.

Impressive. Agree.

This, right here, is the crux of the issue.

If you want to give workers a raise, do it with no strings attached, no fine print and no secret clauses.

When it comes to measuring one's earning power, only the statistic of the hourly wage matters. The component of time should never be removed from calculations.

For example, theoretically you may be able to earn $3k doing that dishwasher job at Sakae Sushi. But you have to clock 72 hours a week... which means your hourly wage is really pittance. There is an intrinsic economic value to your time too. Few people understand that.

A real pity VW wasn't elected into parliament. Intellectually, he is far ahead of many MPs and ministers. Comes across as someone genuine unlike the many fake products in parliament.

UNABRIDGED FULL ARTICLE
“repression is like making love: it’s always easier the second time round.”

Giving this kind of blatant statement only shows LKY never had a virgin before.
If your woman is "experienced" your second time definitely would be easier.
Woman fake it alot. LOL, too bad LKY will never know the virgin truth.

I took the time to digest the whole article and once again, I have to take the side of management.

The statement "If you aren't happy, you can go and work for SBS" pretty much sums it up perfectly. It's a free world and in this day and age where travel is so easy and labour is so mobile, there is absolutely nothing stopping anyone working for any company from moving on if they aren't happy with their current lot.

The drivers aren't being treated as slaves. They aren't chained to their beds in their dorms. They are at complete liberty to do as they please with their lives.

There have been numerous occasions in my life when I was bitterly unhappy with the way I'd been treated. I simply moved on to greater things. There is no sweeter revenge than to end up better off than those who caused your misery.

Impressive. Agree.

Mr Tan Yam Pin,

Nice to see you're still posting. I hope you are doing well.

I am organizing some civil soceity member to join in the protest against the govt. Jolovan Wham, VW, Stephanie Chok, Chee Siok Chin, Ravi Philemon, Andrew Loh, Kumaran Pillai, Seelan Pillay, all invited. You want to attend? You PM me, I put your name in. Don't worry i give you a psuedoname, like Scoo Yam Pin. I won't use your real name

I don't agree. I want to protest against the govt and protect our foreign worker. They are treated badly. 100 yrs ago, we are from the same village. We carried nightsoil together. We made love to each other's wives. I want to see justice being done for these poor souls.

I don't make love with each other wives. What talk you?

SMRT is not General Motors - it is not in financial distress. Why should it be able to break promises to its employees at whim? Unions and management that cannot agree with each other should head for the courts. In this case, the workers were on contract and not represented by the unions. They should have hauled SMRT to court for changing the terms of their employment, but alas they were uninformed. Should there not be redress against unscrupulous merchants who exploit workers regardless of their race or nationality?

I agree with you. ESP the part about taking time to digest this article.

It is too wordy (for the imbeciles in this forum; too many words to convey a point).

But on the other hand, it got the imbeciles and idiots at lost for words. This article is too intelligent for them.

100 yrs ago we are all in China, living together, suffer together. We come to singapore looking for a better lives for our children. How can u forget.

This post, I can see your point.

The other post about f*cking each other wives, I can not.

In my great grandfather's village, some of us were impotent because of malnutrient. So we let another man make love to our wife, we hope that we have a good son to bring a brighter future to us. When our famer go to sell his vege, my great grandpa will sometimes be invited by his wife for an hour of bonding. It is our village way to share everything even sex.

I see your point now.

But in today's context, I'll be extremely careful who is f*cking whose wife. We don't live in a village anymore. By your colloquial sense.

VW not even addressing the root of the problem which is artificially low bus and train fares.
The people threatened the govt into not raising fares. It was a case of armlocked position for the govt, increase fares and lose votes no matter what.
The people say can increase fare provided improve services which means increase 10% fare must also increase 20% work output which in effect a pay cut in actual per hour terms. Where is the avenue for redress?

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm glad there is someone else besides me who can see the bigger picture.

A Hammerrhoid zombie in his comical attempt to explain his Beloved Vichy WP cowardice for not speaking on SMRT strike earlier:
http://www.sammyboy.com/showthread.php?135591-Why-opposition-parties-don-t-comment-on-the-strike

“Workers’ Party is not commenting on the strike now is order not to be accused of politicizing the situation (that has already been politicized by netizens, ie other Opposition parties).

If they step in now, it only gives the govt an excuse to distract the situation and muddy the waters.

ALSO: under the law, instigating workers carries the same penalty as striking itself. You don't ever want to be accused of that. WP knows full well how the MSM can twist even the slightest word spoken out of place.”

Dr Vincent Wijeysingha:

“To use that time-honoured word so hallowed by the PAP, I will be accused by some of trying to “politicise” the issue. The first prime minister’s formulation, which writer Catherine Lim found to her cost, that to involve oneself in politics one must join a political party, is both self-serving and dishonest. All citizens, indeed all people, through the very fact of their existence, are responsible for the political structures, economic conditions and social framework of their community. The word politics stems from the Greek for ‘city’. Living in a city, a community, makes us all responsible for its functioning. In Athens, the cradle of democracy, it was not just a responsibility but a duty. .”

To put it simply Vichy WP eunuchs have no balls to “politicise” the issue and speak up for the people.

Vichy WP eunuchs are using that time-honoured word so hallowed by the PAP and accused other Opposition parties of trying to “politicise” the issue. Vichy WP eunuchs and their Hammerrhoid zombies are both self-serving and dishonest. All citizens, indeed all people, through the very fact of their existence, are responsible for the political structures, economic conditions and social framework of their community.

Even when Vichy WP eunuchs and their Hammerrhoid zombies have already involved themselves in politics by joining a “political” party, they still have no balls to “politicise” the issue and to stand up for the people.

This is what “First World Opposition” is all about………….Comical……..Sad……….But also very Despicable…..

....

Let us examine the facts of the case as they have unfolded, not over this last week since the bus drivers struck, but over almost six months since their contracts were rewritten. For then we will learn that this was not a wildcat strike by a few unreasonable, demanding, ungrateful ringleaders but the last wretched act in a series of grievances which management and the trade union congress resolutely refused to address but which, if they had, might have averted the strike and prevented so many workers (and their families) from having to pay the ultimate price of losing their jobs.

exactly... why charge someone who demand reason.. Not only they do not deal with it with reason but using force to inject fear on them. This is your low life sinkie shit govt. Why bother to stay in such a country?

It is the way the management deal with the situation which demand no respect at all. It is not about mobility of jobs. There is not a need to charge someone who demand reasons. It only show how bad an example PAP ( who control the management) uses to deal with this situation. Putting fear on them.
