Values Based Education

Your dad and my dad can drink beer together.

All those kids whose parents complained to school never made it in life. Most never even finish sec school with decent results. What I did notice was that those who complained actually can speak English and appear to be middle class but not well educated. Had one father who was fireman, another where the mother was cabin crew etc. Both their kids never made it.

Parents who understand the system prepare their kids to beat the entire setup in the long haul. Those who complain about relatively trivial issues at the educators' level are generally clueless about almost everything and are confused by the official line espoused by the MOE. Their progeny are non-starters in the larger game of life in the Singaporean society.

The first thing the dad did was to scold the principal and teachers for wasting his precious time.

"WHO NEVER FIGHT IN SCHOOL AS A BOY? PLEASE LA!"

My brother told me everyone had a good laugh when they looked at their teachers' faces upon hearing this remark.

Scroobal and Vamjok dads can have beer with my dad. 对饮成三杯 ;)

disagree that most parents have done a reasonable job with values. Most of them don't even know what values are.

bro,

i'm rather sad that you've met a large number of twits whom failed to take their kids to task when those brats misbehaved in the public. to be honest, i agree with you that most parents have failed to do a good job in parenting and inculcating good values to the kids. i do feel like smacking some good sense into those brats and their parents at times too :p:p:p

however i need to quantify that i believe most of the parents knows what good values are, point is they simply have no time for their kids. i've seen those whom would discipline their kids proper and good, a pity the parents themselves are in financial predicament and have little choice and both husband and wife had to work round the clock to make ends meet.

trust me, ask any educator regarding Goh's push for "Teach Less, Learn More" from '97. see if anyone could give you a decent clue on what on earth these 4 words meant :D:D:D

教育部早就应该施行这个政策了,可怜的是那些前代的学子们,个个在这个无情的教育制度下被扭曲和糟蹋了许多年……
