The Japanese know that they don't sound accurate, but somewhow they can't distinguish between h and f. This consonant neither here nor there in the Japanese tongue, e.g. the famous Japanese landmark Mount Fuji, it's prounced as hfuji-yama in authentic native Japanese, though transliterated to Fuji instead of Huji, as there're no such in-betweens in English. It's just like Chinese can't distinguish between l and r, so that e.g. lorry became lohlee in Chinese Singlish.

You're right of course. Mandarin Chinese has dinstinct l and r sounds. I think that it's the southern Chinese dialects that don't have. Both l and r sounds are merged as l in most southern Chinese dialects. The northern Chinese are quiet heavy on the use the the r sound and the southern Chinese refer to that as the "rolled-tongue sound" 卷舌音。

Japanese don't have the l sound at all; both l and r sounds are merged as r in Japanese.
