Ever since the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for Singapore-registered vehicles entering Malaysia kicked-in from July 1, some business owners are feeling the pinch — fewer Singaporean customers are walking in through their doors.

Speaking to AsiaOne, Hazel Eng, who works at Kacha Kacha, a self-photo studio located in Eco Palladium in Mount Austin, said that some Singaporean clients have cancelled their appointments after July 1.

Eng, who has been working at the studio for over four years, said she did not expect such a sudden and significant impact on customer traffic, especially since most of the studio's clientele comes from Singapore.

She said business has dropped by about 15 per cent without giving figures.

"It's like a ghost town on some days. We've lost several customers who drive to JB," she added.

Cafe manager Cham Kah Chun, who runs Principal Cafe in Mount Austin, is equally worried. "The number of Singaporean customers has dropped based on our observations, especially since more than half of our customers are from Singapore," said Cham, adding that revenue has dipped by 20-25 per cent since the new rule came into force.

As a malay, I support the boycott of JB shopping. Teach Anthony Loke a good lesson that siphoning money into your cronies pockets has consequences.
This thing started under Najib but only now followed through by Loke as he is a idiot.

VEP is good.
VEP take more money efficiently. For example, I pass through the gantry and money is deducted automatically. Faster clearance.

Wait for RTS come then Sinkies will complain DIVIDED WE SIT & VOTED FOR PAP….

Blame Anthony ……..

This is done deliberately to increase the pent up demand for the SG-JB MRT when it finally opens.

Akan datang late 2026.

As with any new implementation, there may be an initial adjustment period for users. However, once the initial challenges are addressed, the issues tend to resolve themselves, and the authorities typically work diligently to rectify the problems causing any inconvenience.

The problem is not with the authorities. The problem is the company that distribute this VEP thing. Like they dunno how to do business or reluctant to do business.

Sinkies always taken as carrots
Why mudland no impose VEP for thai vehicles at their northern borders? Why thai vehicles can pump 95 petrol? Obviously double standards

Singkie love JB too much. Mudland are a tons of blessings to Singkie. Singkie land has a Singkie hating govt who just want to import more foreigner to replace the peasant gene singkie
