The continuous flow of letters to the forum page with many indicating that some kind of disaster, calamity or catastrophe had befallen the country. All that happened is that the PAP lost a GRC but they also gained an SMC - Potong Pasir. Sure they lost 2 cabinet ministers and a minister but lets get our perspective right.

PAP controls 81 seats out of 87 and continue to have the 2/3rds majority to change any and everything including the constitutions pretty much at will.

Let us not get carried away. It is the PAP policies that led to this level of resentment and concern about the party. A Singaporean's first concern is for himself and his family. Many have come to realise that a degree or even years of dedicated service is no match to cheap labour. Even one has a job, the future of holding to it is a daily worry. The young are unable to start a family as prices for homes have gone thru the roof.

Let us be frank and acknowledge that none of the opposition candidates or their parties offered anything better or were capable of carrying out anything that they suggested. They got the votes as a backlash for the less than pleasant policies impacting their young ones, the unfortunate or those who had the misfortune of being born a Singaporean in recent times.

The nausea of seeing all these letters is getting quite unbearable and rather painful.

Much ado about nothing! KowPehKowBu! Mass hysteria! A case of every PAP porlumpar trying to outdo each other! How else to describe this massive outpouring of emotions when their almighty party had just won 81 out of 87 seats? Amazing!

The ST Forum is the anti-thesis of this Sammyboy Forum. Read both with a pinch of salt.

These people have been brainwashed into thinking a less than 95% PAP parliament (the current state is 93% PAP, 7% oppo) is a disaster and mayhem is about to ensue.

These are people who are clinging to the status quo like an unborn foetus clings to the mother's womb. Question is when will the real political birth of the electorate begin, and when will they open their eyes?

Re: Unable to take the letters to ST Forum - Despair, desperation, ..................

Of all the mother fuckers, Straits Times take the greatest blame of all. Singapore has became such a disaster because Straits Times did not do investigative work. They praised PAP like God when the storm has brewed from the ground. They sucked PAP and criticised the people. Every report that were published carriies PAP ball and afraid to drop it. It is because of STRAITS TIMES, Singapore has this watershed election. It is because of STRAITS TIMES, PAP was fooled to believe everything they did was right. It is because of STRAITS TIMES many people voices were not heard.

It is because of STRAITS TIMES, Singapore has turned from first world to third world.

STRAITS TIMES has no value to the people. It is run and operated like foreign trash and heavily manned by foreign trash who want to do Singapore in.

now they know theres no judgment day ..they might change their mind again ...;)

Re: Unable to take the letters to ST Forum - Despair, desperation, ..................

Its part of the doomsday/freak elections scenario that the PAP loves to paint. The old man is close to kicking the bucket, overstayed his welcome by more than a decade and is losing his mind as seen in his latest book and they think that the country lost its one and only helmsman.

Worse still some are chiding the people for their "irresponsible" act of voting against the PAP.

These guys are so detached that they have no idea that any country hoping to be classified as mature must have at least a full functioning 2 party system to ensure checks and balances and to ensure a back-up.

Agree that SPH has to take its fair share of blame. If they truly played the role of the 4th estate, this country would have prospered in the social sense as well.

Even if the ST adopts a non-partisan stance (not that it would), the shortcomings of the ruling party is already known to all and sundry. The poor quality of the pap ministers (those before and after GE2011) has led and will lead to poor policies. Now they are unable to attract the best and brightest anymore. Hence we have poor stock in the form of MG Chan, BG Tan, TPL, FMH, amongst others.

The pap is in decline. Its brand name does not stir the hearts and minds anymore. Its hey days were from the 1960s-90s, long gone. Welcome to a new era for Singapore.

It is not about the fact that SPH carries these letters. It the emotion and the ignorance that comes out from these letters. It analogous to a loved one having their wisdom tooth pulled out but someone else in the family becomes a basket case because of it, having a multiple heartaches, complete with long periods of sobbing and recrimination.

Re: Unable to take the letters to ST Forum - Despair, desperation, ..................

An excellent point. Not many realise that the quality of PAP's new candidates overall is poor. Many assume that it is the backlash of poor policies alone that got the votes but it quite apparent that new lot is nowhere near what we seen in the past. Imagine pulling out a candidate few hours before nomination.

It will appeal to their core supporters. But ends up turning off the middle of the road independents. Problem is when you surround yourself with cheering supporters you lose touch.

Anyway the basic questions have to be answered - Minister's pay (LHL is talking about that), FT, opportunities for SIngaporeans, HDB, help for socially disadvantaged, etc etc

Opps message should be "ELECTIONS HAVE ITS CONSEQUENCES". See what 5 MPs can do

I have said this but repeat again. Singapore has many brilliant local talent. It is not in the interest of the Lee family to have real and honest talent in parliament.
There are enough people with quality qualifications and real business experience who do not mind serving the country.

Re: Unable to take the letters to ST Forum - Despair, desperation, ..................

Its not only policies. Singaporeans are becoming to realise that their PAP MPs were not undertaking the basic role of their post - to represent the needs and concerns of their electorate. They were in fact doing the very opposite - representing the needs and concerns of the Govt and expecting people to accept it. Take the case of Vikram Nair - he drank to prove that the water was safe but failed to ascertain why the residents were not notified earlier. Now the residents want answers and accountability.

The tide has turned and the WP has got the formula right - projecting the image of being electroral reps and not becoming overambitious by throwing out shadow budgets etc. The PAP will not only have to fix the policies, they have to review the role of a PAP MP. Tan Cheng Back, Lily Neo and Tan Soo Khoon did it but no one else. Look at the young MPs from 2006 elections - P65 my arse. Not one of them did anything commendable in parliament.

Yes, I agree. Just as long as these brilliant local talent join the pap. The moment they join an OP, they become the enemy and need to be destroyed. Thats how narrow-minded the pap is. Any intelligent person exposed to the business/real word would not be easy to tame. Hence, they would rather chose dumb and lame fucks like soldiers and others who are obviously not qualified. Just as long as they are yes people and that would suit the pap just fine. Like I mentioned, the pap is in decline. Exciting days ahead for our country......FINALLY!

Re: Unable to take the letters to ST Forum - Despair, desperation, ..................

Not sure if I agree. It is not that PAP do not want them but their other way around. The good chaps with proven record do not want their names tainted by being associated with the PAP. I know a few who have been approached but have quietly turned them down. They don't mind giving political donations but they do not want to be associated with the PAP. In this day and age, even their kids think that it not cool to be associated with the PAP.

One of the reasons that PAP has been approaching Malaysians to run is that no one is keen. Take the case of Foo Mee Har. There are so many people in StanChart that are more capable than her. Then look at the NTUC chap

They are now scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

I do sincerely believe that there is a lot of local talent who want to serve Singapore for Singaporeans. The track record and perception of PAP is a party that fixes people rather than the country and thus we now see talent showing up in the opposition, because they cannot take it anymore of the misrule and abuse by the PAP and the Lees, especially that one Lee. PAP after Lee, has never been about serving the country but serving Lee for his own masturbation of what Singapore should be to him and for him.
