Ministers can’t be very happy with the Sunday Times for a story the newspaper carried on 26 October 2014. Of course, that’s only if they understand how public opinion is shaped. They may not. Going by the tone-deaf way they have conducted themselves across a whole range of policies, they may have no feel for the public pulse.

The story about the High Court slashing lawyers’ fees may at first seem to have nothing to do with the People’s Action Party. But netizens quickly zoomed in on one name: Alvin Yeo, senior partner of the law firm WongPartnership LLP . Alvin Yeo is also the PAP member of parliament for Choa Chu Kang GRC. WongPartnership was retained by the Singapore Medical Council to represent them in the Susan Lim case.

In this era of heightened political sensitivity to a widening income gap and the way Singapore has become a playground for the self-indulgent rich, causing rents and costs of living to skyrocket, any news about the elite further inflating their incomes can only stoke popular outrage. Now with Alvin Yeo’s name being mentioned in this case providing the bridge, public anger.....

Bread as usual has a way of saying what everyone is thinking. Whatever the merits of Susan Lim's case, she was investigated and disciplined because a foreign government initiated the complaint. Nobody submitted the defence that as a businesswoman she had a right to charge as much as she could. I somehow feel had the patient survived the outcome for her might have been different.

By contrast nobody will discipline the fat cats who charged all they could because frankly everyone on the panel wants to do the same. Doctors charge what they think the patient can bear. Lawyers too. Unless you are somebody politically important don't hope for any reprieve. Anyway, if you are somebody politically important in Singapore, you this will not happen to you for sure. You will also get free eggs with your char kway tiao and your nasi padang plus bandung will be 3 bucks all in.

So far no sound from the pappy on this case, so the public should continue to debate the matter to keep the issue alive and remind us what kind of people they are associated with.
Ask anyone who has committed a more serious offence, Alvin, Roy or HHH?

In Singapore, democracy is govt by the rich, for the rich, and of the rich.

Cool. What kind of -cracy is that?

it is elitocracy which was exactly what happened to early greek democracies ruled by a small group of elites. democracy is just a power-grabbing excuse to rid a state of monarchist and dynastic rule. but it is easily replaced by pretenders of democracy who become tyrants themselves. same thing will happen with oppos in sg.

We don't know if the oppos will be like the PAP unless we try them. It is time for a change. Will you run for the WP?

Susan lim has been complaining that NO senior Counsel wanted to take up her case of over charging when she lose the case to SMC. Of course, no SC will want to "disturb" the market.
