1672579323530.png

It has been eight days since TVB actor Mat Yeung’s (楊明) 18-day jail sentence after being convicted of driving under the influence. Serving his first eight days at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre, a prison facility in Kowloon, he complete processing and testing negative for COVID-19. Today, Mat was transferred to Stanley Prison.

One of the six maximum security prisons in Hong Kong, Stanley Prison has a capacity of 1,511 inmates. Cells are typically 80 square feet with its own bed, sink, and toilet. Like all correctional facilities in Hong Kong, Stanley Prison has a strict schedule where inmates rise at 6:30 a.m., have lunch at noon, and eat dinner at 4:30 p.m.

Despite Mat’s continued legal troubles, his girlfriend Lisa Chong (莊思明) remains steadfast in her loyalty and expressed that he is the man she will someday marry. However, Lisa and Mat’s family did not visit him on his first day at Stanley Prison during its afternoon visitation hours.

Out of the 18 days in prison, there will only be two visitations in which Lisa will be able to see Mat. Although she remained by his side during the trial, she has not been seen in the public eye since he began serving his sentence.

Spending Christmas and New Year behind bars, Mat is scheduled to be released on January 8 and will fortunately celebrate the Lunar New Year with family and friends as a free man.

Vincent Wong Has Been Working in China for One Year

1672663454386.png

Traveling to China earlier for filming obligations for the Justice Sung (狀王之王) remake, Vincent Wong (王浩信) continued to reside in China for work and has been apart from his family for one year.

As with many Hong Kong artistes, Vincent participated in Chinese variety shows to increase his popularity and chase the money-making Chinese market. He most recently appeared on the tenth episode of the Chinese variety show, Now Playing Improv Comedy <開播!情景喜劇> along with Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍), Owen Cheung (張振朗), and Samantha Ko (高海寧),

Vincent also took part in popular improv sitcom, Sisterhood (家有姐妹), as a special guest. Because he previously shaved his head for filming of Justice Sung, Vincent had to wear a wig for his performance in Sisterhood. To enhance the believability of his performance, Vincent opted to speak Mandarin in the show instead of using dubbing. He expressed, “When I chose to participate, I wanted to try acting in Mandarin and challenge myself. The director of the series is the same person as the previous variety show I took part in. He and his editorial team primarily film comedies and asked if I was interested. I love to film comedies and felt that it was a fun character to portray, so I wanted to try it.”

Despite the slew of opportunities and exposure in China, he is missing his family after being away from home for nearly a year. Wrapping up his current projects, Vincent hopes to return to Hong Kong to celebrate the Lunar New Year with loved ones.

Ruco Chan Considers Buying a Home in Malaysia

1672839854500.png

With a large fan base in Malaysia, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) has always viewed the country as his second home. Accompanied by his wife Phoebe Sin (單文柔) on a work trip to Malaysia, Ruco shared that it has been a long time since they have travelled alone.

Chosen to be the brand ambassador for a Malaysian chicken pot restaurant chain, Ruco donned a chef’s outfit and showed off his knife and culinary skills for the commercial shooting. “We discussed this commercial for a year, but I was unable to travel due to the pandemic. This is a good beginning [for the new year]. Malaysia is like my second home, as I’ve received a lot from this place in both awards and popularity.”

As Phoebe has not travelled extensively in Malaysia, Ruco brought her to visit Penang, Ipoh, and Kuala Lumpur. “I’m acting as her tour guide and introducing her to the passionate locals. We ate a lot during this trip, and we gained a few pounds. I hope people don’t think she is pregnant after seeing the photos. She is already working hard to lose the weight.”

Ruco also took Phoebe to the spots where he filmed Outbound Love <單戀雙城>. “When we filmed there, the area was really barren and now there are many new developments. The place we stayed at this time also has a hot spring which was a nice surprise! We wanted to stay longer and look at properties, but I need to return to Hong Kong to prepare for the TVB Anniversary Awards ceremony. The size of homes [in Malaysia] is pretty good, and the environment and food are great. I like Ipoh’s white coffee that comes in a plastic bag, and char kway teow the most.”

In the running for Best Actor, Ruco also has a high chance to win the Malaysian Best Actor award as well. Always modest, Ruco praised Joel Chan (陳山聰) and Andrew Lam (林敏驄) who are also nominated. “The audience voting system is very fair. Andrew’s drama and his acting received great reviews, and I’m sure everyone has witnessed the hard work Joel’s put in over the years. I will work hard at campaigning for myself too!”

Lisa Chong Visits Mat Yeung in Prison

1672928677660.png

After convicted for driving under the influence, actor Mat Yeung (楊明) has been sentenced to 18 days in jail. His girlfriend Lisa Chong (莊思明) had immediately visited him at the jail the day after sentencing and was seen looking worried. She and Derek Wong (黃建東) visited again on New Year’s Day.

In August 2020, Mat crashed into a divider at Magazine Gap Road in the Mid-Levels. He appealed the decision on December 22, but was dismissed by the court. He is expected to complete his sentence by January 8, 2023.

According to Stanley Prison’s visitation rules, Mat is allowed two visits from friends and family during his 18-day stay. Lisa and Derek were seen arriving at the Stanley Prison in a black, seven-seater van at around 1:25pm before heading in to fill out registration paperwork. Lisa was only carrying her bag and did not bring any daily necessities for Mat. Derek wore a mask, sunglasses, and a cap and quickly followed her inside.

Mat appeared at 2:45 p.m. and was seen wearing a brown, long-sleeved prison uniform. His hairstyle and physique did not appear to be much different from before his jail time.

Walking with a slight swagger, he seemed to be in good spirits. After meeting with Lisa and Derek, he was escorted back to his cell through an open air tunnel by correctional staff. Leaving with Derek after 3 p.m., Lisa was clearly in a better mood. Taking the initiative to wave at reporters and wishing them a Happy New Year, she did not respond to questions about Mat but cautioned reporters to leave soon due to the cold weather.

Derek, who is a good friend of Mat’s as they filmed many dramas and exercise together, also refused to divulge details on Mat’s current imprisonment in contrast with his usual chatty self.

As the series progresses, there are many sweet moments coming up. “We took a lot of time to discuss how to best film our romantic scenes. For example, the passionate scene in the office pantry took an extra long time to film because we wanted to bring out the feel of the script and viewers can see our contradictory feelings.”

Asked if he is romantic in real life, Joe replied that the small everyday moments in marriage, such as going to the supermarket with his wife and doing chores, are the most important. Thanking the crew for taking care of him when he filmed a scene where he had to roll down a cliff, Joe said “It was very cold and I had to submerge into water. Mat Yeung Is Released From Jail

1673187938735.png

Charged for careless driving at Mid-Levels Central back in August 2020, actor Mat Yeung (楊明) received an 18-day jail sentence after an unsuccessful appeal. After serving out his sentence at Stanley Prison, he was released on January 7 – a day earlier than his expected date of release, since January 8 was a public holiday.

On his day of release, over ten reporters had already congregated outside Stanley Prison as early as 7:30 a.m., while two correctional staff started marking out an area for members of the press to gather. Turning up their vigilance, four other policemen were also on duty at the area. Mat’s girlfriend, actress Lisa Chng (莊思明) then arrived at 9:05 a.m. in a white MPV vehicle.

Although the correctional officer had earlier stated that Mat would speak briefly to the press, the actor headed straight for Lisa’s car upon his release. Dressed in a white tee and dark blue outerwear, the 41-year-old ignored questions from reporters who asked him how he was feeling and what was the first thing he wanted to do on leaving prison – but did greet them with “Good Morning”.

Meets with TVB Management
However, Mat did not head straight back home, as the three were spotted parking outside the TVB City (Tseung Kwan O) building, where Mat, Lisa and his manager were seen entering. Mat had reportedly met and apologized to TVB executive Virginia Lok (樂易玲) previously, but did not arrange to meet TVB chairman Thomas Hui (許濤). Responding to press queries, the chairman had stated that the matter was being handled by human resource department and thus he usually would not get involve personally, though he voiced hopes for the artiste implicated to turn over a new leaf.

Mat Yeung Apologizes, Recounts Jail Experience

1673357983840.png

Granted an interview on TVB program Scoop <東張西望> after his release from jail following a DUI conviction, a teary-eyed Mat Yeung (楊明) recounts his short 17-day stint in prison!

Reads from a Paper Script

Twice bowing while interviewed, the 41-year-old said, “My time (inside) was very disciplined, I lost my freedom there, and thought over many things and reflected on a lot of what I did, and also hope that my release today will be a fresh start,”

Asked about reports that he had requested protection for fear that he might be harmed in prison which was why he was transferred to Stanley Prison midway to serve out the remaining sentence, Mat did not provide more details but only replied that he does not wish to disappoint the company (referring to TVB) or waste the opportunities that has been given to him all this while.

Mat: Guilt Was the Worst Torment in Prison

With the camera directly focused on Mat throughout the interview, he continued and said that he has let down his family and those who had continuously supported him and gave him chances. Describing the first few days of the sentence as the worst, he admitted to screaming several times. “This sense of guilt is the worst torment inside, there’s no one to talk to you and only the four walls, nothing to express your emotions…”. Mat added that the correctional officers and doctors had been a great source of encouragement and positive strength and cautions against wrongdoings, as “it is tough to pass time in (there)”.

Claiming that he has learnt his lesson, he expressed that he was most guilty about having caused his parents worry as the latter had even encouraged him instead. As both his parents tested positive for COVID-19 and were currently at Penny’s Bay Quarantine Center, Mat will only visit them some time later. He added that he would also want to “get a bowl of noodles” as the dish was unavailable in prison.
