It is not uncommon in the lead up to elections to poll voters on the candidate that they would vote for if an election were called tomorrow, in order to gauge popularity of the candidates and make judgements based on these results as to who might win the coming election.
This is a methodical process attempting to capture a representative cross-section of society where the election is being held. In this spirit, although without the precision of a professional poll, this impromptu poll attempts to gauge which candidates are receiving support from the online community and in a hypothetical situation may receive their votes.
In line with the hypothetical scenario, the ‘main players’ are listed for election, ignoring the realities of walkover and last minute withdrawal.
Who would you prefer to be the next President of Singapore?
 • Mr Tan Jee Say (55%, 126,464 Votes)
 • Dr Tan Cheng Bock (33%, 77,134 Votes)
 • Mr Tan Kin Lian (10%, 22,258 Votes)
 • Dr Tony Tan (2%, 5,824 Votes)
Total Voters: 231,680

[h=2]Why it is important to stay united behind a single candidate to deny Tony Tan victory[/h]

With the presidential election less than two weeks away, it is worrying that non-PAP supporters are split among three candidates other than Tony Tan.
While most of us have lent our support to Tan Jee Say, a significant minority will be voting for Tan Cheng Bock and Tan Kin Lian which will inevitably present victory to Tony Tan on a platter.
Judging from the voting trends in the last general election, Tan Jee Say is assured at least 30 percent of the votes – which is the votes garnered by the poorest performing non-PAP candidate in Hong Kah GRC.
These 30 percent of Singaporeans are the hardcore PAP-haters who will vote for anybody or anything other than the PAP. Even if a monkey is fielded, they will vote for the monkey rather than for the PAP.
Given Tan Cheng Bock and Tan Kin Lian’s past association with the PAP, it is highly unlikely that the voters will support them.
Tony Tan will obtain at least 40 percent of the establishment votes which is calculated from the average percentage of votes the PAP garnered in Hougang and Aljunied. These are the hardcore PAP supporters who will support the PAP regardless of the opponents.
This leaves us with 30 percent of undecided or swing voters who can gravitate either towards the establishment or independent candidates like Tan Jee Say to check on the PAP.
Tan Cheng Bock is likely to obtain at least 20 percent of these votes with 10 percent going to Tan Jee Say and Tan Kin Lian.
Being widely popular with the PAP grassroots, Tan Cheng Bock will surely siphon away establishment votes from Tony Tan and the latter may end up with less than 40 percent of the votes.
Tan Jee Say needs only 10 percent of the swing votes on top of the core 30 percent votes to secure a simple majority over the rest. However, if we do not stay united and split our votes to Tan Cheng Bock and Tan Kin Lian, then we will only be boosting the chances of Tony Tan.
Everybody has their own personal preferences and we certainly respect the choices of our readers. A few of our loyal readers told us they support Tan Cheng Bock because they like him in person. Another support Tan Kin Lian because he was very helpful during the minibond crisis.
This election is not about voting the man we like most as President. It is about voting the candidate who stands the best chance of denying Tony Tan a victory and to serve as a check and balance on the PAP.
Tan Jee Say has the 30 percent anti-PAP votes in his bag because he stood for election on a SDP ticket against the PAP in the last election.
Tan Jee Say is the only candidate who stated clearly in no uncertain terms beyond any reasonable doubt that he will not only just check on the PAP government, but to scrutinize their political nominees very carefully.
The other two candidates only gave vague promises of being a voice of Singaporeans and serving as a ‘bridge’ between the people and the government, but stopped short of saying they will check on the government which is the key role played by the Elected President as stipulated under the Constitution.
Let us leave aside our personal preferences and UNITE behind a single candidate for the greater good – the stakes are very high this time. Do you want to see Tony Tan as the Elected President for the next six years? Do you want to see his face hanging in every schools? Do you want another ‘inactive’ president who is merely a ‘figurehead’?
Please think carefully of your choice. Every single vote counts.

Why these people always assume TJS confirm get most of oppo votes? Oppo is not consist only of SDP. WP has so far not sarporked any candidate. If any oppo can lay claim to 40% vote count, it is WP and SPP. The 2 SPP big wigs are in TCB camp. SDP, NSP, RP etc all scored below 40% except Nicole Seah. NSP easiest target MBT, the main target of public anger, also got voted in despite "heavy weight" GMS. So all these claim that TJS gets most of oppo vote is at best bullshit and plain rubbish.

That is because SDP got the balls to have someone to go for being a president. So in this case, TJS is sort of being a representation of the opposition that will put a check on PAP.

That is called EQ understanding, not sinkie Q understanding.
