Transport Minister's bus ride "wayang" exposed

I remember another incident many many years back. A minister did a "surprise visit" to a particular MRT station in the east. When he arrived, barricades were setup and lesser mortals were asked to stand behind them until the minister leaves. Those barricades are set up at both end of the MRT terminal, leaving 80% of the platform empty.

The minister arrive, smile smile, take pictures, boarded the train and left.

The MRT personnel promptly removed the barricades and everything went back to normal.

Next day. Newspaper headline "MRT - a comfortable ride".

I note that the complainant travelled between Bukit Panjang and Bugis. He should use MRT and get used to it. Many bus routes have been intentionally delayed or outright cut to make people use MRT. More and more lines and stations are built to support this policy. For those who live in Hougang area for example, remember the days when 82 went all the way to Beach Road, 111 went all the way to Orchard Road etc.? These days are gone, my friend. Why try to cut bus services and frequencies? Commonsense, to reduce traffic jams. The next problem is human jams on the trains.

Unfortunately, the bus service is a lot faster than if the letter writer took the train.

Bukit Panjang is unfortunately in one of those no-man's land part of Singapore where the bus service will usually be faster to reach the city than the MRT.
