The Tesla Model Y has been confirmed as the best-selling car around the world in 2023, outselling both the Toyota Rav4 and the Toyota Corolla.
The Model Y first emerged as a best seller in the first quarter of last year, and now data firm Jato Dynamics has confirmed that it maintained this status for the entire year, selling 1.23 million cars.
This was a clear lead over the Toyota Rav4, which sold 1.07 million vehicles, as well as a much cheaper Corolla which had 1.01 million units delivered.
This was first predicted a few years ago by Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, before the car was even launched.
Here in Australia, the Model Y has been a hugely popular model since it’s launch in June 2022, selling more than 37,000 with the most popular variant being the single-motor RWD.
In 2023, it made 28,769 sales, but was pipped in the final rankings by both the Toyota Rav4 and MG ZS, partly due to a ship with biosecurity concerns being turned around and those vehicles not getting delivered to customers in the last quarter of 2023.

It was the best-selling electric vehicle by a significant margin over electric vehicles from other brands.
Prices of its Model Y have also been reduced and it now starts at $65,400, helping it qualify for the remaining state incentives, such as Queensland’s EV rebate which was increased in 2023 to $6,000.
The latest data compiled by carloop shows that the Queensland rebate assisted drivers making the switch to cleaner vehicles in 2023, increasing by 445% on registered Teslas in 2022.

With a total of 10,380 new Tesla vehicles making it onto Queensland roads during the year, the Model Y accounted for 62% of them.
Tesla continues to dominate sales and with more Model Ys on the road than ever before, it’d continue on this path to remain the best-selling vehicle in 2024 as well.

Tesla will be overtaken by those cheap Chinese makes within the next 2 years. It's already happening in the Scandinavian countries. Elon Musk's balls will shrink, not to mention that he'll also have to compete against the Germans as well as his own American brands like Rivian, GM and Ford. Elon Musk is a real fuck. He's very boastful, arrogant, cocky and talks too much on social media. No other American bigwigs does so like him. Many would prefer to stay in a low profile.

I am also of the opinion that going forward, Hybrids are the way to go. EVs cannot be sustained unless they have newer batteries that can be recharged to 80% in less than 10 minutes, but then this will be at the expense of a very much shorter battery lifespan. One cannot have the best of both worlds.

Buffett initially bet on byd but has since dumped their stock

You charge too fast, the battery will be depleted more rapidly. You put the battery in extreme cold, the battery can't charge properly and the mileage decreases with it. Worse, the charging port doesn't work in extreme cold.

These are the huge market for EVs. If these huge market can't succeed or it is badly eroding because of technology limitations, small market will not be sustainable too.

BYD is years behind Tesla. It's primarily an automobile company whereas Tesla is an AI company that makes 4 wheeled robots ie Teslas and humanoid robots with arms and legs which are set to revolutionise manufacturing and outstrip the revenue of car sales within the next few years.

It does not make sense to even make a comparison because BYD and Tesla are not competing head to head.

Tesla is more of an overhyped company. For EVs, the main criteria towards its success is battery technology. Tesla doesn't make its own batteries. Even Panasonic, LG and Samsung are all downsizing their battery production presently, in anticipation of a much slower demand.

Mechanically, Tesla's build quality is still not on par to those luxury ICE brandnames. Elon Musk is lucky because EVs only need about 35% of mechanical moving parts as compared to ICE cars. Otherwise, his EVs will have tons of mechanical problems now. His main fort is he's being the frontrunner on the software side of EVs. However, for the majority who buy EVs are not just for its self-driving capability, but more for operational costs, long range and overall reliability. There is also no guarantee that electricity prices will remain the same forever.

Why many New Yorker's aren't buying EVs? Why EVs' resale values drop drastically? Some deceitful makers like Hyundai even ridiculously charges a replacement battery more than a new equivalent vehicle. The worst is they'll insist on full battery replacement once the undercarriage of the vehicle will be impacted or even suffers a dent as they will claim that the operational reliability and safety of the battery have been compromised. Also, for all those Authorized Dealers, there's no such thing as battery repair, but only to replace it wholesale.

Actually it's the other way round . Tesla is using byd batteries n byd is not a car company..it's a battery company n the yanks dropped the ball on battery tech years ago

EV's are selling due to gomen tax incentives for buyers plus EV makers such as tesla earn billions selling their carbon credits to legacy car manufacturers while those manufacturers still lagging are penalised in the billions as they fail to " decarbonised" quickly enough.

European luxury brand found out its more profitable to manufacture their EV's in china.

Plus battery technology has not reached its optimum plateau and prices keeps dropping while energy density stored keeps going up resulting in either longer range or lighter EV's snd cheaper models.

So if you get a EV model now, it will be worthless if a newer model has a longer lasting batteries, longer range and far cheaper than when you bought it.

Best get a used non EV car till the dust settled.

BYD batteries are used only in the Model Y giga Berlin production line.
