There are people in the world who do not need to show off. They feel perfectly comfortable maintaining a low key profile.

There are many such characters in NZ. It is impossible to tell a person's wealth in NZ from the car they drive because most kiwis choose practicality over status. However, the rich will have a nice yacht moored somewhere and a plane or helicopter hidden away too.

The wealthy here buy stuff to cater to their lifestyle rather than to show off.

I beg to differ. Sometimes people think that cars are bought to show off, but there are people like me who loves to drive and a car is bought based on its merits and not the badge. However, if you want a balanced car with strong torque and handling, it is still the more expensive brands that offer this. And no, I cannot afford a maserati nor want one because it is just a watered down Ferrari.

NOTE: Although Isuzu is in 3rd place and about half of Toyota sales, all its vehicle are pickup trucks and it's variant like the MU-7 and MU-X "utility" vehicle. Isuzu had done a great job all these years in this market. Respect for them.

I don't think it really matters a lot about this brand ranking as many owners have more than one car. A car rental company will perhaps buy a certain brand or a business might decide to go for one particular make and these decisions are based on practicality and brand reputation. It is more important to know what brand of cars the business owner and the well-to-do drive, not based only on the car being cheap and good. No one will deny that the Toyota is a good and reliable car, and it only confirmed what people already know. For many other owners of different brands, they will want to be seen dead in a Toyota no matter what.

You might as well ask what colour panties most women wear but for most men, they would want them to take it off as colour does not matter but what it covers does.

I need a garage with 40-course ceiling or I need to get out from the window :(

in the tropics, a car port with a 240v socket will do. where i am, we need enclosed garages because winter conditions can be brutal at sub-zero overnight, even in dry, sunny and mild california. :o
