This morning I was heading to the wet market and a Tiongbu came over and ask me for directions.
She asked me 请问菜市场那边走? She also said she wanted to buy 菠萝.
I told her "This is Singapore, we speak English!". And I told her in a stern voice that we call a wet market 巴刹 and pineapple is called 黄梨. I added, "PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE WHAT WE SINGAPOREANS CALL THINGS IN SINGAPORE!"
I walked away, refusing to give her any directions to the wet market.
I feel proud and happy.
