http://theonlinecitizen.com/2010/12/toc-presents-the-political-event-of-the-year/
What is it about?
As the next General Elections draw closer, we hope to facilitate a more in-depth discussion of the main issues which affect and concern Singaporeans. As the parties prepare to present themselves to the electorate, it is important, we feel, that the public know where the various parties stand on the issues. Thus, we hope this forum will go some way in helping to foster this.
Format of forum
In past forums, we have noticed that the more interesting discussions take place during the Question & Answer part of such forums. Thus, we thought it would be best to devote an entire forum to the Q&A. On 16 December, the session will last about 21/2 hours of questions from the audience and replies from the panel of politicians.
What issues?
While we shall leave the questions to members of the audience, we expect that some of the issues raised will include:
* Public housing – HDB affordability, homelessness
* Civil Liberties – Freedom (of speech, press), Films Act, Public Order Act, MDP, new media
* Retirement/CPF – CPF withdrawal age, minimum sum
* Immigration – Citizenship, permanent residency, influx of foreigners
* The economy / jobs – wages, economic sustainability
* Politics – General Election, future of opposition parties, parties’ manifestos
Panelists representing their parties at the forum are:
Dr Chee Soon Juan – Singapore Democratic Party
Mr Chia Ti Lik - Socialist Front
Mr Gerald Giam - Workers’ Party
Mr Goh Meng Seng – National Solidarity Party
Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam - Reform Party
(We are awaiting responses from the People’s Action Party and the Singapore People’s Party.)
Moderator:
Mr Alex Au
Mr Choo Zheng Xi (In the event Mr Au is unable to participate)
Details of forum:
Date: 16 December 2010
Time: 7pm to 11pm
Venue: Sinema Old School, Mount Sophia
As we are expecting a full house, seating will be on a first come first serve basis.
We look forward to your presence!
