It is a simple way to allocate limited resources for the general public. They had created a complicated system and only the rich can afford. Nothing wrong with middle class family affording it as it had always been that way till the COE implementation and now getting out of control. Hence, the middle class are now being marginalised. It is difficult to put a price on convenience and comfort, so I am prepared to pay for both while owning a car. However, if the govt subsidises or lowers the barrier for entry-level cars so that every middle-class family may afford one, the number of vehicles on the road would result in SG becoming one big carpark. A traffic jam caused by 100,000 Hyundai cars slows down traffic as much as a jam caused by 100,000 Rolls Royces.
As long as you have a quota, it is being controlled. 3000 cars still being renewed monthly by balloting. Only those buying royce rolls need to pay luxury tax. No such jam as visionalised by you as only 3000 cars are balloted monthly.
