TJS's Thank You Speech

His Thank You speech has become a much talked subject all around. There are lots of questions and speculation is rife.

We are talking about an OMS who went to Oxford and who did PPE. He also became a DS for one of the most important Ministries followed by PPS.So this is not your cut and dry case. It sure will be interesting. By the way, his qualification for PE is a taboo subject. The opposition needs to raise this in parliament.

Breaking it down:

He only got one degree, PPE. Most scholars have 2 degrees--a masters or even a second masters.

He became S for MTI because there was only him back then and GKS liked him.

PPS: He was PPS because of his economic background, not social or political work. Unfortunately, once PPS, he had to handle stuff like the Marxist Conspiracy and the GRC implementation.

I think Chua Kim Yeow is a political genius. If I'm not wrong, he garnered more than 40% with so much lesser exposure than TJS, and zero rally with zero volunteers.

Chua Kim Yeow could have been the messiah.

Chua Kim Yeow was a plant. The Govt wanted a contest for the first EP to give it some legitimacy. Chua, being the loyal civil servant, (he was Solicitor General?) agreed to be the fodder. However, nobody planned for him to garner more than 40% of the vote. He hardly campaigned and in fact indirectly endorsed Ong Teng Cheong!

Don't read the wrong signals. It was just that more than 40% of the voters were telliing the Govt something....

As for TJS, I think the jury is still out on him. I don't think the PE was an ideal platform for him. He should'nt also read the wrong signals. Among the anti establishment vote he came second to an ex PAP guy and a very weak third place candidate....
