The Murdoch-owned New York Post amused us all with the jubilant headline "US wins 1-1" after the national team held England to a draw.

But, with the US losing 2-1 to Ghana on Saturday and crashing out of the tournament, they've since had to change their tune. Unfortunately, "this sport is stupid anyway", isn't a line that's likely to console any Englishman. We're all still more likely to echo Bill Shankly's claim that, "football isn't a matter of life or death, it's much more important than that."
