Three Malaysian brothers jailed for cheating MBS casino of $344,000

By khushwant singh

A CROUPIER who roped in his two brothers to help him embezzle $344,000 from the Marina Bay Sands casino was jailed for three years and four months today.

Matthias Ng Khay Yeek, 24, had the most severe sentence. His brothers, Matthew Ng Khay Shean, 25, and Mark Ng Khay Shuean, 21, were each jailed for two years and six months.

Surveillance video footage showed Matthias overpaying his brothers at a baccarat table. Matthias and Mark were arrested in the casino on Oct 1 and Matthew surrendered himself later that day.

Investigations revealed that Matthias, a Malaysian employed as a croupier in May, had heard of cases of other croupiers accidentally overpaying gamblers without anyone noticing. In early August, he told Matthew and Mark at their home in Johor Baru of his plan to misappropriate casino chips. They agreed to split the loot equally.

I was once told by an insider in the casino industry that for every one crime discovered in a casino many others go undetected.

for every case caught, there may be nine who got away.

Yes...true...but no point as once caught , you are gone f....not worth it unless you can siphon at least a million within a short time span.....

Obviously these people did not think it was risky. I question the casino's oversight practices. There is supposed to be a bit supervisor.

I would not be surprised that it wasn't the eye in the sky (i.e., CCTV) that caught these people. But rather another casino patron who noticed the over-payment and informed a casino employee.
