Those who survived a suicide attempt on what drove them to the brink – and what helped them hold on

Thanks for bringing up this timely article from our own CNA.

There can be no doubt that Singapore has a high stress environment, for even a kid, let alone adults, just from simply survival and worse - HIGH EXPECTATIONS from oneself and from parents, family, relatives, peers and friends....

No matter how good a country is, there is no perfection in ANY society on Earth, as mortals are flawed and imperfect. While the strive for excellence is great thru IQ,, equally, a balance is needed for EQ, as it is emotional intelligence such as love that can either sink one down the lowest depths of mental depressions, or UPLIFT oneself to the greatest height of achievements beyond Human comprehension.

Thus the FAMILY UNIT is CRITICAL for EQ support, as NO Human is born out of a vacuum, but born out of love, care and concern.

Each life is precious and means something special to another, regardless if just a kid or stranger...

No matter how harsh life may be, the family unit is the frontline of support for anyone - father, mother, brother, sister, relatives......Such is how Humankind progressed and evolved - we leave none behind, beginning with our very own close kins, following the only Golden Rule on planet Earth - do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you.....

It's about ADAPTABILITY to life as the only constant in life is changes. No matter the life circumstances, stay true and courageous to the gift and path of life given. Some of Humankind had been born physically imperfect, or had a rough life journey - bullied, stigmatized, hurt and harm, and YET, they did not GIVE UP on the precious gift of life, even as simple as just to see another beautiful sunrise or cold petering rain on windows under warm cozy blankets provided by seemingly uncaring but are only actually loving parents and loved ones whom may even be struggling to find best solutions for all beloved......

  • Retired California Highway Patrol Sgt. Kevin Briggs first met Kevin Berthia in March 2005 when Berthia was moments away from jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge
  • Briggs was responsible for talking more than 200 people out of leaping from the famed California landmark
  • After helping Berthia, they later forged a deep friendship and now travel the country speaking about mental health and their work preventing suicide
