Was that Farrer Park Swimming Pool? Paramount Cinema, I watch "Ten Commandments" there ( re-runs) with my girl friend, after that go Chomp Chomp for Makan & up the slope of Chartwell Drive, the small park, near to the church, try to, "mo mo char char" with my girl friend...
Anyone remeber "Sputnik" the coffee shop, not the Russian space ship?

End of it (Paramount) where I used to buy and sell 2nd hand books.
How can I forget the gool old Sputnik Restaurant.
It was the first coffeeshop as you turn left to go into Maju Avenue.
Use to have my favourite "Kolo Mee" upstairs.
Lots of ang-mors living there.

sali i think its a kind of metal that they used as roof. ang is the colour.
last time they name the place according to some landmark

I think the metal is zinc (hokkine me think is called "sali hok"), and they are wavy zinc sheets painted with anti rust coating which happens to be red, to prevent oxidation.

Serangoon garden is not called 'chia keng' but its very nearby to ang sali where my grandma used to live..I remember the old 'chia keng' prison

another ang sali is at changi 7 mile or 8 mile if i never remember wrongly.

Yes Chia keng is very near to angsali, i have made some punctuation marks amendment to my previous post. My grandma used to have a house at chia keng, sometimes I took a 10 mins stroll from chia keng to ang sali

Isn't Farrer Park Swimming Pool in Kampong Java Rd, opposite the new KK hospital
Yes, one of my two favorite swimming pools in childhood and teenage. The other being River Valley Swimming Pool. Only these two have the classic style 9ft. pool, one shallow end and one deep end, unlike new Olympic standard pools that have two shallow ends with the deepest 6ft. in the middle, i.e. V-shaped.

I don't know the lifeguards' names those days. Just did my best to prove to them I could swim so that they didn't blow whistle at me and come after me.

Farrer Pk brings back fond memories. Primary school track and field competitions always there coz nowhere else suitable. Soccer fields there unearthed lots of past national players. Makan stalls there best.

You also Farrer Park pool, track and field fan, that's nice. Many national swimmers, runners and footballers are groomed from there. My school then sedikit atas, track and field competition at National Stadium, football games at Jalan Besar Stadium and swimming competition at Chinese Swimming Club.
But in sparetime swimming I always liked to go Farrer Park or River Valley.
