Thomson Line to fully open by 2021

Updated 03:07 PM Aug 29, 2012

SINGAPORE - Come 2021, commuters living in the North - such as Woodlands, Sembawang and Thomson - will be able to travel directly to the city area using Singapore's sixth MRT line, the Thomson Line. The 30km-long line will have 22 fully underground stations, four more than was originally planned, and it will include six interchange stations.

The Thomson Line's alignment was announced this morning by Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew after he visited the Telok Ayer Station, which is one of six stations of the Downtown Line Stage 1.

"I am happy to announce that DTL Stage 1 is on track for opening by the end of next year," said Mr Lui. The six stations - Chinatown, Telok Ayer, Downtown, Bayfront, Promenade and Bugis - are currently in the final phase of completion.

Mr Lui said the Thomson Line will commence construction in the third quarter of next year. The line, which will run on a 4-car system, has a projected daily ridership of 400,000 and is expected to serve 160,000 households.

The Thomson Line will be opened in three stages from the north to the south, with the first phase of three stations from Woodlands North to Woodlands South set to begin operations in 2019. The second phase, which comprise six stations between Springleaf and Caldecott, will open a year later, while the final stretch of 13 stations from Mount Pleasant to Gardens by the Bay will begin operations in 2021.

The line will be built at an estimated cost of S$18 billion. The sum is part of the S$60 billion investment in Singapore's rail network that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had announced during Sunday's National Day Rally.

In order to build the line, the Government will be acquiring four full plots of land, two landed properties along Stevens Road and Robin Close, the Thomson Road Post Office and Pearl Centre which is located at Eu Tong Sen Street.

Is this Thomson Line said to finally (if it ever happen) to connect to Johore ?

Anyone have info where exactly is the Mayflower station and Sin Ming station ?

The Upper Thomson station is near the Long House eating place opposite the Post Office ?

Let me guess, Mayflower Station would be at where A.M.K. Town Garden West, the area in the past, is called "jeo sua" ( Stone hill), or further down AMK Avenue 4, where the secondary school is!. There is an open space in Sing Ming Industrial Park, don't think they will built the station where the private houses are Jalan Minggu, Khamis etc.. Upper Thomson Station, maybe the Old Lakeview Shopping Centre, market & food centre (demolished & vacant for years) & the opposite side vacant land, next to the C.C., ( this area was the old "soon Hock Village" Hanyu pinyin Shunfa!). which is walking distance from Long House!, maybe they will demolished long house too.

There are two vacant lands in Sin Ming. The one behind Bishan Park SS, empty field including the carpark next to Bishan park and the other behind Flametree Condo. From Mayflower to Sing Ming, they are not going underground to Flametree, Too many private houses including Thomsom Grand. My hunch is the field behind Bishan School, There are about 8 diggings all around and also inside the school. The lastest is the at the traffic light near the school. So Mayflower to Sing Ming, have to go under the park along the Sin Ming Ave to the Post Office, which is the Thomson station to benefit Thomson Plaza.

Partially correct. Founch the detailed maps embedded in the news report.

Mayflower station at junction of AMK Ave 4 and Street 11, near to St Nicholas Girls Sch.

Sin Ming Station at traffic junction of Bishan Park Sec School.

Upper Thomson station is near Thomson Plaza, opposite a church and Post Office.

If it connects to Johore, it will be a very heavy traffic line, with old folks and visitors going to Johore Old folks Home !

For Sin Ming residents, there is another small piece of land in front of Ai Tong Sch. It will serve two neighbourhoods at Sin Ming. Bear in mind, the priority always for students. There are three schools.

If it is at the Long House , why they have to acquire the Post Office.

I was wrong. It is just where the church and Post Office are, nearer to Thomson Plaza.

That is why the Post Office will be acquired.

Ok first one, Mayflower Station? should have named it St Nicholas, since its nearly there than Mayflower? or Sembawang Hills which is a nearer housing estate, there is a vacant land there, thought they will use the park land.

Again, Bishan Park Secondary, they going to dig up the park after spending large amount of money to renovate the park!, gee!..even though it is near Sing Ming..should have used another name, maybe Pierce!? thought they will use the vacant land in Sin Ming Industrial Estate.

Upper Thomson?? I thought they will use the empty land where Lakeview Shopping was, ok the land opposite Thomson Plaza..hmmm could have named it Bright Hill , the 'brethen' can have easy access to "Kong Men Sua" from the Station up from Bright Hill Drive.

Don't think the Post Office, too congested, & the church land will be acquired!! Opposite Thomson Plaza would be good, since they left vacant land there for a long time plus the old Out Patient Dispensary building is still there. I will miss the Post Office...last of its kind,

Why must the PAP MPs in Thomson GRC come out and pose for the announcement of the Thomson Line on CNA? Did they pay for it? Did they canvass for it? Is it a political donation from PAP? Why must we see the fucking faces of Toilet Ah Bee, Ah Seng, Vikram the Ah Neh? What roles have they played? Why turn it into a partisan issue?

Fucking PAP is insulting our intelligence.

God bless all when train breaks down somewhere out there.
Mayflower Station could be somewhere near Mayflower Sec Sch in AMK Ave 1.
Sin Ming possibly at Kong Meng Sua there?
