SINGAPORE: Presidential hopeful Ooi Boon Ewe appeared at the Elections Department on Tuesday with a unilateral contract appealing for funds for him to fulfil the Presidential Election deposit requirement of $48,000.
The written document, which Mr Ooi showed to MediaCorp, says he will reimburse "dollar-for-dollar" any amount that was deposited into his bank account if he wins the election.
It also says he will refund any money deposited in his account if he manages to secure more than 12.5 percent of votes and does not lose his presidential deposit.
He will also refund all donations if he is deemed ineligible to contest by the
Presidential Elections Committee.
But Mr Ooi said he would not be able to return the money if he is unable to secure more than 12.5 percent of votes, which would mean he would lose the presidential deposit.
The 70-year-old, who failed in his bid to contest as an independent candidate at the recent General Election, arrived at the Elections Department at about 4pm wanting to know when nomination papers for the Presidential Election will be issued.
Mr Ooi collected the application forms for the Certificate of Eligibility on 1 June to contest the Presidential Election which must take place before 31 August.
