: Of the 872 MiG series fighter aircraft purchased by the Indian government till 1980, a total of 482 planes
have crashed till now, killing 171 pilots and 39 civilians, government told the Rajya Sabha. In a written reply to the House on
Wednesday, Defence Minister A K Antony said, "A total of 872 MiG aircraft of various types were purchased from 1966-1980...
482 MiG aircraft accidents took place since 1971-72 to 2012-13 (till April 19, 2012)."

Look on the bright side: out of 482 crashes - only 171 pilots died. That means the ejection seat/parachute has a 65% success rate. In Singapore terms - that's as good as a 100% victory.

From the above, I know you are an optimist ... :p

Another piece of good news ... our Malaysian friends are also using MiGs (MiG 29N)!
They have 14 but only 10 are still flying due to maintenance and spare parts problems!
