The two great divides of men are not time and space

but politics and religion. Both human constructs.
Anyhow paraphrase. I checked with AI. Here's what AI says...

AI Overview

The two great divides of men are not time and space, but rather between "those who can" and "those who cannot," and between "the rich and the poor". The famous saying comes from a poem by the 19th-century American poet and philosopher Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr..

  • The "can" and "cannot" divide: This divide separates those who are able to do something (like sing or dance) from those who are not.
  • The "rich" and "poor" divide: This divide separates those with wealth from those without it.
Therefore, Holmes concludes, “The two great divides of men are not time and space,” but rather these two social and economic divides that exist within humanity.

There is a known misattribution to Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. about the two great divides of men being "time and space". However, this is likely a misunderstanding of his work. He did not say that time and space are not divides. However, he did talk about the two great divides of men as "those who can" and "those who cannot" and "the rich and the poor".

Knn who is this Holmes chap?! Never heard of him before today. He says divides are social and economic. I say it's politics and religion. Pls dig him out of his grave, I want to debate with him!!

1. Politics is a choice and not a situation, as politicians are EMPOWERED by citizens. It can be changed by choice in democracies or by revolution in tyrannies.

2. Religion has No compulsion. Those that do is NOT mainstream religion, but evil. It is still a choice and not a situation, as one can always walk away from vitriols that promotes hate, kidnapping, torture, slaughters of innocent others or those whom are capriciously deemed as guilty thru TWISTED sacred texts by mortal men.

A. Social circumstances are a choice as well, but with Free Will, no authority can compel one to work or aspire towards greatness, but only to provide the necessary ingredients for success in life, regardless of for wealth or for power, but CRITICALLY of knowledge thru education and skills, to propel one to provide for oneself, family, loved ones and society as a whole.

B. Economic circumstances are often not of one's choice, as on our planet, only 2 Nations on Earth have the ability to be self sustainable - USA and Australia, but most will have to live with the circumstances that other nations sharing our planet has to offer, such as oil, minerals, agricultural products, etc.

Ultimately, it boils down to ADAPTABILITY, no matter the circumstances or choices - to be and survive OR not to be and starve...

Time and space means NOTHING to an immortal, as such one lives thru eternity, thus what is one second that we Humans hold dear, but only a blink of and eye to such....?

BUT we Humans are not immortals as EACH have limited LIFESPANS and RELY on REALITIES of our 5 gifted senses to define such - see, hear, touch, taste and smell....

Such are EVIDENT thru our PHYSICAL senses, such as the movement of a sentient being or Human construct objects over time, the rotation of the Sun that creates day and night to our mental perceptions, thru our BIOLOGICAL senses of NEED to rest as well as our decaying cells from the moment of our birth, from a baby to a elderly person, etc....

To an Immortal, or even NON HUMAN AI, such exists not. AI or its discoveries in Quantum physics, ONLY applies the CONCEPT OF EXISTENCE to itself, so long as there are INITIATIAL inputs BY Humans for its own GENERATIVE learning, progress and evolution to even far and wide of our Universe. It knows not pain and suffering or Human emotions that make us who we are, but only cold clinical solutions to resolve issues and problems......

Thus time and space only applies to an Immortal and AI, which we Humankind are not...

For Atheists whom are ignorant of the perception of what Immortality means, perhaps this analogy concept may help:--

A housefly, which is a sentient being, only lives for 28 days, buzzing around in our Human World, whicĥ is capable of reproduction, watching a gardener tending his flower beds, will wonder why Humans seem to live so long, as it passes on knowledge to its progenies whom equally lives the mere 28 days.....

The point is - TIME and Space is only a Human construct, and would never hinder Humanity for its necessary progress, evolution and MANIFEST DESTINY, as PROMISED in ancient scripts, to the stars,

Time and space is a REALITY to Humankind, to progress and evolve and fulfill our Destiny, from generation to generations, as ULTIMATELY, planet Earth WILL fall into our own star - the sun and be consumed, NOT next year, or in a Million years, but in Billions of years, which thankfully EVOLVED Humanity are taking the necessary steps to find other habitable planets, to manage and survive....

To return back to the thread - lofty concepts as it may seem to many and beyond their comprehension as they have to earn an honest living daily, to put food on their table for themselves, loved ones, family, relatives, friends and society, BUT it is what we Humanity will and have to do to fulfill COLLECTIVE Humankind's destiny, at the least in Peace if not in Harmony, so that we, the next innocent generations of beloveds and much more to come....that they will have a chance to live precious life and will survive.....
