the tissue aunties and uncles...

Ask the aunty/uncle - " who you vote for ar?"

If she/he reply : "PAP"

Your reply : " then let PAP feed you lor!"

If she reply: " opposition" ..... then you give $2, or $1 if they did not vote.....

what happens if she said: 小弟,你说啥?吾中国来的。

The full song was: uncle aunty帮我买tissue pehper 好吗, one lolla one lolla, tissue pehper one lolla

this may seem like a regurgitation of an old recurring topic, but me would like to draw some attention to these folks once more.

this phenomenon was first noted in the late 90s, it began with these tissue aunties or old uncles standing or sitting around the bus interchange and/or MRT entrances and exits. not sure where they drew ideas from, me can still vividly recall that song by that auntie in the wheelchair, singing: "one dollar, one dollar, tissue only one dollar"

the singing tissue aunty is still around, have seen her in a few different places.
I have given up trying to figure out what went wrong or thinking too hard whether to give to them.

Just to state 2 examples of tissue sellers.
1. An elderly blind man who sells tissues, english speaking, very polite, even apologised once when someone bumped into him.
I have donated to him without taking his tissues.
2. An elderly lady who always asks loudly for people to help her, not disabled.
Once I saw her in the morning selling tissues, later that evening, saw her again in a cinema eating popcorn with her legs stretched out on the chair in front of her.
Never given her a cent or bought a single packet of tissues from her.

That could have been one of the places, have seen her at various spots over several years.
But Clementi bus interchange is now an indoor interchange linked to the new Clementi Mall.
She's probably not that anymore.
Her material situation may not have improved, but I admire her spirit.
