The Rot started when pap opened floodgates to foreigners and the infrastructure couldn't cope
Another perfect illustration of how some people just deserve to have their lives snuffed out.
Once again the cavalier attitude and poor work ethic of the the lower levels of organisations has resulted in massive inconvenience and heartache for the top echelons of management.
I truly feel for Desmond. He has ended up stressed and distraught through no fault of his own. I'm sure it has affected his family too.
If I adopt the same attitude as those trying to crucify Desmond, I would like to counter propose that the maintenance team who caused all this disruption should be severely disciplined. Post humus convictions should not be ruled out and the families of the deceased should be made to pay some sort of compensation to all those affected.
In plain language, the bigger Temasek gets with the corresponding increase in dividends, Ho Ching gets bigger bonuses and shares which I am sure as a Chinese Jew will politely and magnanimously decline.
Time to do something about essential service being under the Temasek. I am not sure what Goh Keng Swee and Hon Sui Sen will think when they peer from their graves and see the current conduct of Temasek when compared to what they gave birth to as Sheng-Li Holdings. They probably glad they left this world.
You do have a point. She has no background in engineering and therefore no appreciation of maintenance and as the years added on the neglect became worse. The fact that the retail front made impressive gains does show where the focus was. She might be the immediate cause but the blame then has to be on the the folks that appointed her. GLC Boards are typically sinecures. Key appointments, targets and direction are typically set by the Holding company, in this case Temasek or the Govt.
I found it odd that the Minister of Transport is now setting the targets, bringing in people that are overseeing its delivery and the current point person. In the scheme things this is not good governance. With the PM's wife being the beneficial owner of this enterprise, no sure if the environment is right in the first place.

the 2 dead being m&ds surely elicited greater responses of sympathy from the public. Were they to be Chinese there would be less sympathy.
man can only look forward and not backwards.if goh keng swee was here today to witness singapore's transformation from fishing village to first class city he would approve too.
Opening the floodgates undoubtedly accelerated the whole rot due to the sudden immense strain the whole infrastructure has to deal with.
It's like a lift for eight people now having to accommodate 12 people
