SMRT imported a lot of army officers since Desmond took over, former-officers in Keppel/Sembcorp only know how to play golf, SSC and its NSAs flopped big time in the hands of retired officers, who messed up our sports scene with cronyism and defaulted vendors, NOL clocked a profit in the toughest shipping year (2016) in recent memory after Ng left, A-Star burnt a huge hole without much achievements since Philip's days and continued to appoint leadership from army..............the list goes on.
On the other hand, if we paradrop COL (Dr) John Wong or COL (Dr) Ang to medical institutions, they are highly qualified and respected.
We need technocrats, not bureaucrats. In the examples cited above, many officers know nothing more than a management trainee in many GLCs, stat board or govt agency. These unqualified, bulldoze their way through board meetings of these organizations without respect of their subordinates with true "field-experience" in the trade.
Honestly, I have friends who were regular officers; they left the service, retrained themselves and doing very well as CPAs, in fields of Education, foreign defence-industries, etc. Many of these good men have good integrity and management values but the mess that the unqualified officers in GLCs and govt agencies, is putting a serious dent on value of re-employing deserving retired army officers in the private sector.
