The truth is that many businesses are aware that the economy is already headed for a tailspin. The PAP cleverly massaged the year end figures at the close of last year to windowdress as if the economy is in not in recession when in actual fact, it already had been like that since the second half of last year.
the dirty trick that the PAP of doing is to put up the population ponzi paper (especially in view of the bad timing and massive disadvantages it posed after the massive loss in the PE BE), is for 2 purposes
a. if they succeed in pushing through this traitorous shit, they succeed in getting sufficient FTa to be mportedi to vote them back into power. BTW who knows ......if these bastards can import another 500k new citizens we might have an early elections so that PAP can have more good years;
b. if they don't succeed in pushing through this ponzi scheme through parliament, they will turn around and say, there! you see? it is because of WP's objections and kpkb about this scheme thats why we abandoned it in accordance with your wishes and now the economy is in deep shit as a result.
the WP is clever in that regards because they did not go and oppose the whole plaq blindly, just part of the plan. the best way forward to take the sting ut of the ccb kiah PAP dirty tricks is this
a. agree to have some immigration but a very very gradual pace say only 500k more to 2030
b. agree that if the PAP wants to do so they better sort out the present infrastructure problems, the social problems, the traffic congestions, the overpriced properties and their unaffordability by the masses;
c. to attach conditions to this agreement such as plans to increase and improve the TFR of this country through social welfare and enhancements schemes - we are doing this for citizens only not for all and sundry. From free maternity and hospitalisation for citizen mothers to larger subsidies for childcare, maid levy waivers and better work life balance measures as 3 weeks annual paternity leave. these measures are long term measures so don't expect to see the fruits of these until at least 5 years.
d. a more citizens centred system of government. now that we have reached 5.5 million, its time to slow down and take stock. not rush off with a poorly worked out paper bullshitting the masses with bogeyman stories about economic tailspin,silver tsunami and corporate exodus etc etc all these things should have been known to the government of the day already s there is o excuse for them to be dragging all this out to scare the populace NOW!! One good start is to make sure that there is citizen job matching first before you allow any company to import a foreigner.
e. to use their so called National Wayang Conversation properly and seek the people's views on wdf they think as improvements to the quality of life that the people want to see. i mean really ask and not ask your CCB Grassroots PLP kiahs to sing your favourite PAP tunes. choose the top 5 most common requests and then implement it.
f. acknowledge that growth is NOT everything ....money does not buy us happiness,..... we were better off being not as rich but more together as a family of citizens....
