That's not a lie you twit. That was an erroneous forecast. It happens all the time in all countries. Forecasting weather patterns and climate change is not an exact science.

We don't pay someone a million bucks to make an erroneous 'forecast'. If he doesn't have a clue, then he should not make such pronouncement. It shows him up as utterly incompetent.

There's a difference between being incompetent and lying. If Sinkies think he isn't competent, they can simply vote him out in the next election. That's what democracy is all about.

Come on don't be so naive. ALL politicians make these sorts of rallying cries peppered with motherhood statements.
But the PAP has been telling us that they are different from other politicians, that's why they deserve millions in compensation!

Besides Singapore has reached the Swiss standard of living if measured by per Capita GDP. He never promised that everyone would be wealthy.
Swiss standard of living is not making everyone wealthy; it is high income for all so that everyone can afford a roof over their head, no worries about paying $10 for a Big Mac, worry-free retirement and world class transportation system, ability to go on vacations in far away locations. That's the promise that was NOT kept.

The PAP has had one common thread running through all their election campaigns since day one and that is that they will create opportunities for Singaporeans to take advantage of and on this measure they have consistently delivered. At the end of the day, that is what matters.
And on this lowest standard, the PAP has failed. If there are opportunities for sinkees, then there should be NO unemployment or underemployment for PMET. The PAP has failed miserably on what that matters.

There are many countries around the world which offer nothing even to the most talented citizens. Singaporeans should thank their lucky stars their country isn't like that.
There are also many countries where the basics in life - housing, transportation, healthcare and retirement - are easily achieved without being burdened for life.

The methods and are more elaborate than outright lying. It is managed with much hidden information so that you are kept ignorant. Let me give you an example.

When the Temasek wanted to sell our power stations to foreign entities, we were told that it was to liberalize our electricity market:

Report from 7 years ago :
http://www.wildsingapore.com/news/20070910/071018-3.htm

we know from the liberalisation of the energy market the outcomes has been horrendous for consumers. Here is an extensive study of all liberalised energy markets skip to the conclusion if you don't have time for the whole report:

http://www.wwei.info/mediafiles/wwei/website-files/consumer_prices.pdf

Temasek proceeded to sell off all our power stations to foreign companies in deals ...the contract terms are not known to the public.

Now the govt puts us on a schedule of electricity liberalisation in 2014, the publicly sell us the idea that it will bring lower prices:
http://www.ema.gov.sg/news/view/589

The liberalisation of electricity is suppose to result in contestability of energy prices...so we are told but in almost all liberalised market it ends up like EPL packages in Singapore a key resource in a limited number of hands...and the consumers suffer rising prices.

It is not clear what the govt knows and what their intent is but suppose we experience rising electricity prices like many other markets - how much of what they tell the public is true? We don't know because much of it is done in secrecy like the contracts of sale of power station to foreign hands.

To catch their lies is difficult because of secrecy. There can be no integrity and honesty when there is a cloak of secrecy to cover what lies beneath.

Suppression of lies is just a pretext for suppression of truth and opinion.

Netizen growing up with use of internet know how to manaage the information in this space they don't need the govt to regulate it for them. The purpose of regulation and draconian laws is to use on bloggers critical of the govt one small slip or carelessness in what they write and the govt can use punitive measures against them.

The recent regulation is to give govt power to demand site take down an article they do not like

exactly...the educational level and maturity of the average net citizen is probably higher than that of the msm reader/viewer....it is the latter who can be easily brainwashed with economical and half truths...

The credibility of the PAP is doubtful now because what the Ministers say is not really translated into an action plan to reflect what is stated.

2. Data and info from govt institutions often contradict each other and suspicions grow that half truths if not outright lies are to hoodwink the public, EXAMPLE;
http://thehearttruths.com/2013/07/30/singaporeans-are-you-being-taken-care-of-by-your-government/

Figures provided both by MOM & CPF do not tally. Which one has provided the correct data? Who has LIED or dabbled with the figures?
So, why is it the Ministry of Manpower has a set of statistics that said that there are more than 50% of Singaporeans who earn above $3,480, while the CPF Board has another set that showed that only 36% of Singaporeans earn above $3,500?

What democracy? Just having an election is NOT democracy. Democracy involved freedom of press, judiciary independence, freedom of association ....

Hi winngjts:

unfortunately "democracy" is defined as "equal political rights for all citizens of legal age" which means "one man, one vote" which makes Singapore's leadership as "government by the people." Don't want to start a debate on this as many Singaporeans do not feel the ruling leadership to be fair, but in the eyes of the international community, it is. The other issues you mentioned, like freedom of the press, yes, there is freedom of the press in Singapore. On this, there also exists the right to sue false testimonies; judiacary independence, well in all societies, the upper circles do rub shoulders with one another, and close association does work towards one's favour, freedom of association, that's upto the better judgement of the cops. But these do not make a society democratic.

As described above, elections are the democratic way to choose representative. Unfortunately in Peesai's case, her citizens keep electing the same team over and over again. I'm not eligible to vote, so I just obey the rules of the country I work and live in and keep my fingers crossed I do not get into difficulty.

Cheers!

You can't have democracy when the Elections Department is controlled by the PMO. Look Zimbabwe has elections ...is it a democracy. So, there is more to democracy than just having the vote. The definition above is incorrect, IMHO.

I copied that definition from an old hardcover copy of the Oxford Dictionary which I kept since secondary school. Maybe its outdated.

Democracy only describes the way leadership is selected. How the country is governed is another issue. Singapore's leadership is democratically elected.

Cheers!
