Before discovering CHIJ CBs, dropped by the ronggeng outlet to joget with the busty (in my eyes anyway) ladies there. Buy 4 perforated coupons for $1-00 and came in 4 perforated sections. Dance with them, each song cost 25 cents. You hand over one coupon before each song starts.

There was a State cinema - 50 cents for tickets in the front 5 rows. Watched some movie starring Suzanne Pleshette (??) and fell in love.

At night, El Amigo Niteclub, starring the Starlights - Pinoy band.

The arch to the entrance still exist along Jalan Besar next to the pawn shop, I believe, facing where the new PA office is, where the recent EP nominations were held.

PA premises used to be my sec. sch. Victoria. My pri. sch. was Beatty two streets away, now premises occupied by SINDA. New World was my childhood playground. I've learned all the Beatles, Bee Gees etc. songs from a pirate cassette store there. They did retail but they were actually the pirate makers too. The boss would sell to me at S$1.50 when retail was S$2.00 per cassette non-negotiable unless you'd buy five or more at one go. There were three cinemas. Bright (Chinese movie premieres) near the front gate, Pacific (Chinese movie re-runs) in the middle and State (Indian movies) near the rear gate. The biggest attraction for kids like me during those days was of course the amusement park of arcade games and the air rifle "range" shooting for prizes.
