The HDB 99-lease time bomb

99 years house can last for 2 generations. If 2 generations can’t accumulate enough wealth to get another property then it’s fucked up right?

Vers has been announced 10 years ago n the details still not out....so is the pap hiding something?
The govt stated that the initial VERS projects are not expected to be launched until after 2030. This is because HDB flats have yet to reach 70 years of age when they will be eligible for VERS, which is designed to be spread out over 20 - 30 years.

So much arguments and counter arguments. Twists and turns. Pros and cons. For profit or social good.

Why so difficult?
Sell your house and migrate lah. PAP just waiting for your leases to hit 50 years and your hdb flat will find no buyers and value goes to ZERO! Then your money is forever stuck and you cannot pass it on to your kids!
Sell it while you still can and use the money to buy a FREEHOLD!!! in another jurisdiction. Take out the money and assets that you have accumulated and don't allow it's value go to nothing!

MIGRATE!!!!!

HDB flat may not be ideal but it’s definitely a protected asset

It’s very silly to sell your house & bring your money to other countries .. as the people there may not even welcome you & your family

So full details of VERs will be released when the flats become 70yos? How can ppl plan?

I believe that except for a few isolated cases, the older flats will last longer than the newer ones built since the 2010s. Those with an alphabet suffix to the same block number e.g. Blk 810A, 810B, 810C, 810D. :sneaky:
I won't live long enough to see the end of the 2010 flats...but might see the resale market for the Tengah flats and the damage caused by central aircon crap

Unless the PSC shifts boldly towards a more inclusive and broad based recruitment process, the man-in-the-street will continue to be frustrated by policies that do not mirror the realities on the ground. Senior civil servants have to see things in context, anticipate developments that may affect S'pore and be innovative in meeting such challenges without having to rely on precedents that may have served us well in the past, but are no longer relevant.

The argument against moving to a developed western country in the past is that S'poreans would be 2nd class citizens, but the reality is that we are now 2nd class citizens in our own country as the PAP woos foreigners with all manner of carrots to entice them to take up PR and SG citizenship.

Policymakers must have a true feel of the ground and do not take their fellow citizens for granted. In spite of the support of the 65%, our leaders may continue to lose the support of millennial voters who expect both accountability and a say in policies that affect their lives. In this regard, the future of S'pore may be brighter if our Fourth Generation leaders introduce daring and innovative plans. A departure from mere modifications to the 50-year-old strategies of our Founding Fathers is of paramount importance.
