There were two things that kept the PAP in power in the good 'ol days: The PAP delivered on the economic front, and the opposition was painted as weak and infirm. Agree. Those good old days way back produced no credible oppo parties after Barisan Socialis walked out of Parliament. Today, every oppo party is trying hard to get in against all odds. Only in a despot run country would a PM take down another citizen (not even consider as a political figure) instead of taking the opportunity to come out to clarify the issue.

To be fair to a fellow human being, it is certainly not right to make unfounded malicious allegation against LHL and then retracted it with an apology when challenged.

If that guy had merely made certain claims, whether misconceived or unfounded, about CPF and the min sum, but without personal attacks maliciously, LHL would be unlikely to have taken out the suit against him. Compare him to LKY, LHL is generally an OK guy except his policies are dumb in some areas. Those who had dealt with LKY before would tell you that the man is a terror.

Back in the 1980s,trade unions still had real power and were manned by leaders of hokkien and teochew organizations that were close to the Chinese population...after that NTUC and other trade unions got infiltrated by PAP cronies and the leadership got compromised and u know the rest of the story..Singapore became a facist dictatorship.
