Thank you, Mr Chiam! – AN APPRECIATION DINNER

Posted by theonlinecitizen on June 8, 2011 http://theonlinecitizen.com/2011/06/thank-you-mr-chiam-an-appreciation-dinner/#comments
Dear Readers
For 27 years, Mr Chiam See Tong has served the residents of Potong Pasir, and spoken up for Singaporeans in Parliament as a Member of Parliament. His quiet determination and never-say-die approach to expanding democracy in Singapore has earned the admiration and affection of many, including even those whose political views differ from his.
As a small gesture of appreciation, TOC is organising, with the support of the Singapore People’s Party, a dinner event to honor and thank Mr Chiam for his years of contribution to Singapore and Singaporeans.
Join us in saying “Thank you, Mr Chiam!” on the 18th of June 2011, from 6-10 pm at Re! Hotel. As there are only 170 seats available, please book early to avoid disappointment.

Won't be attending the dinner, but I'll say it here:

Thank you Mr Chiam!

As a schoolboy, i remembered standing on the pavement of Potong Pasir Ave 1 with my late grandfather to catch a glimpse of Mr Chiam touring Potong Pasir to say thank you to the residents there following his 1988 GE win..

It has been 23 years now...how times flies...

Pains my heart to see Mr Chiam in such a frail situation now..

Mr Chiam is a Legend and will always be that Humble Legend who sacrificed alot for the People..

A Big Thank You to Mr Chiam..

We shall never ever forget your past sacrifices.

will there be a similar dinner to celebrate LKY's death ????

i sure go one...............

I met Mr Chiam in 1994 in High Street. He is a gentleman and a good-looking Opposition Leader that PAP feared most. I remembered that it is Mr Chiam who made then PM Mr Goh & his teams working very hard on the ground in Marine Parade GRC for 1992 by-election which a loss for the PAP teams is possible and that will made mockery of a PM been exited from the Paliament :D

Mr Chiam spoken on a lot issues concerning Singaporeans including cost of building HDB in the Parliament.

Mr Chiam also had a major contribution in building a democratic society. He ensured that no sure-win seats for PAP and that constantly reminded the ruling party that the main objectives to serve the Singaporeans. GE 1984 & GE 1991 is a very good examples.

More importantly Mr Chiam is committed in serving Singaporeans till today.

Thanks you ...Mr Chiam

We see you as true hero for all Singaporeans :p

SINGAPORE: A dinner was held on Saturday evening to mark veteran opposition politician Chiam See Tong's 27 years of contributions as MP of Potong Pasir.

Organised by The Online Citizen (TOC) website, the dinner was attended by some 250 people including former MP Tan Cheng Bock and former NTUC Income chief Tan Kin Lian.

Organisers said they admire Mr Chiam's fighting spirit and his determination to stay in politics despite having a stroke in 2008.

Mr Chiam, who is secretary-general of the Singapore People's Party (SPP), lost his parliamentary seat in the recent General Election.

He had left his Potong Pasir seat to contest in Bishan-Toa Payoh Group Representation Constituency but he lost to the PAP team there.

170 tickets for the sold-out dinner went on sale to the public about two weeks ago at a cost of S$30 per head, while additional seats were bought by private donors.

Mr Ravi Philemon, head of community outreach at TOC, said any excess amounts collected will be donated to the SPP's charity, the Singapore People's Community Foundation.
