Nothing unusual. Its the same the world around. He did not commit any crime in Thailand so he was not arrested for any crime. But they are aware of what he did in Singapore and therefore has revoked his right to stay in Thailand and he has been detained in their immigration centre. Singapore has to apply to Thai courts. As this is not a capital case, I am sure the Canadians are not going to object.
.
I think you better get a another source of information. My lawyer friend working here told me that once he is in canada, he is scott free. He will never be extradited to singapore. Not because this is not a capital offence. but because of the corporal punishment. The canadians consider caning to be on the same level as the death penalty when it comes to extradition cases. If there is a chance that Roach will get caned, he stands a good chance of his lawyer getting him out of the extradition. The canadians will never extradite him because they don't have caning in their own country, just like they will never extradite anyone who might get the death penalty because they don't have it themselves.
If they don't get him back from thailand, he is home scott free. Better for the SPF to fly to thailand, and ask the thais to release Roach to them and escort him back to singapore. Done as an intra agency one off co-operation mission.
