"In a worst case, it would stop world trade ... UPS and FedEx would probably go bust,
we'd have a full disaster scenario."

James Halstead. An experienced consultant for Aviation Economics, Halstead says the cost of properly
securing air cargo is too high to be feasible and would bankrupt the industry if every item of cargo were
carefully screened and scanned before going on the plane.

Parts of Scottish airport evacuated after item found: police
London, Nov 4, (AFP):

British police said parts of Glasgow airport in Scotland had been evacuated after the discovery of a suspicious item.

Police in Glasgow "can confirm that at 19:55 hours (0125IST) security staff at Glasgow airport became aware of an item which they deemed to be suspicious in nature," a police spokeswoman told AFP.

"As a precaution parts of the airport have been evacuated." The security alert came after two parcels sent from Yemen and containing explosives were uncovered today in Britain and Dubai on cargo planes en route to the United States.

It also followed a Greek parcel bomb plot that has seen packages mailed to European leaders and foreign embassies in Athens. Greece has said the plot has no link to
international terror.

In the US plot, the parcels were addressed to Jewish institutions in Chicago and contained the explosive PETN in ink toner cartridges. Western governments have since imposed new restrictions on freight in the wake of the plot, and Yemen has scrambled to contain the fallout by announcing exceptional security measures on all freight leaving Yemeni airports.
