An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection to at least 5 reported cases of online cheating where victims believed they were purchasing high-end headphones.
The suspect had posted online on a Facebook page stating that he had high-end headphones for sale.
He claimed that the headphones were purchase at a price lower than the market rate.
This induced unsuspecting victims to make orders. They transferred money into the suspect's bank account as payment.
A meet up place was then arranged for delivery. However, the suspect never turned up and the products were never delivered.
Police arrested the suspect on December 19 in an operation at Bedok North Street 3.
Investigations are still on-going.
If convicted of cheating, he faces a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine.
Covering Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Superintendent of Police Leon Chan, commended his officers for their good investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
He added: "When dealing with unknown persons over the Internet, it is always prudent to be cautious. Usually, if the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is".
He also urged others who may have fallen prey to come forward and lodge a police report.
