SINGAPORE – At least $20,000 has been lost since November to malware scams involving online sexual services.

The police said on Dec 3 that these involved at least six cases.

In this scam variant, victims would encounter offers of online sexual services via social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram or Threads.

Scammers would deceive victims into downloading a malicious application under the pretext of initiating a video call, which will allow scammers to remotely access victims’ photo galleries and contact lists in their devices.

They would then capture images of victims engaging in sexual acts during the video call or retrieve compromising content from their photo galleries.

After successfully capturing images of the victims engaging in sexual acts during the video call or retrieving compromising content from the victims’ photo galleries, the scammers would threaten to send the photographs to the victims’ contacts, unless the victims transfer money to the scammers.

Now if on-line sexual services were not illegal…these scams would not have happened to these innocent teeko peks
