Tan Kin Lian proposes pension for elderly Singaporeans

Presidential candidate Tan Kin Lian has proposed the idea of a pension
for elderly Singaporeans to help complement their CPF savings in their golden years.
Speaking to the state media on the sidelines of a visit to a welfare home
for the aged on Saturday morning, Mr Tan said:

“I’m in favour of a pension for elderly people, maybe beyond age 75 or 80.
It doesn’t cost much and this will help a long way.”
A survey done last year revealed that the majority of Singaporeans will
not have enough savings in the CPF for their retirement.

“In Singapore, of course we depend on the CPF savings, but where the CPF
savings are not enough, we have to give more help, especially to the
elderly people who are poor (as) during their lifetime they were not able
to save much,” Mr Tan added.

It is highly unlikely that the stingy PAP regime will approve Mr Tan’s proposal
as it will lead to the slippery slope of ‘welfarism’ and create a ‘crutch mentality’
among Singaporeans.

On the other hand, PAP leaders have no qualms spluring $10 million
dollars on a ‘Community Integration Fund’ to make the foreigners feel happy
in Singapore and $387 million dollars on the biggest flop in sporting history
– the YOG. (what’s that?)

While elderly Singaporeans do not receive pension from the state,
PAP ministers are entitled to a monthly pension amounting to no more than
two-thirds of their last drawn salary once they reach 55 years of age
,
regardless of whether they are still in office or not.

Furthermore, with ageing population looming in the horizon, I bet this idea will be dumped into the waste paper bin almost straight away!

Khiaw Boon Wah will be reelected as heath minister and ship aged Singaporeans to Malaysia .

With any delay it will be so .
