Tampines Mall evacuated after fire breaks out at food fair; man conveyed to hospital

Tampines Mall was evacuated after a fire broke out at its ground floor on Thursday (18 April) afternoon.
Responding to queries from Yahoo News Singapore, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said its officers responded to the fire at about 4.35pm.
The blaze, which involved a deep fryer at a food fair being held in the mall’s atrium, was extinguished by members of the public using dry powder extinguishers and a hose reel before SCDF officers arrived at the scene.
A man was conveyed to Changi General Hospital for smoke inhalation and the mall was evacuated by security personnel as a precautionary measure. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, said the SCDF.
In Facebook post at around 5.45pm, the mall’s management said a “small fire” had broken out in its atrium and that the mall had been temporarily closed as a “safety precaution”.

Videos posted on social media of the incident showed a small blaze breaking out in a segment of the mall’s Spring Kyushu Fair. Smoke from the fire was also seen rising three to four storeys within the building.
People claiming online to have witnessed the fire reported multiple Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police vehicles arriving at the mall.

luckily got out of there when i saw fake jap food on display. how can they let these food stall morons cook in the premises without proper ventilation and safety requirements? not only smoke but carbon monoxide poisoning without exhaust vents. stupid orgyizers and mall management which allowed them.

Once upon a time, Japanese food fairs were mostly held at Isetan Orchard's supermarket, because they were inside the supermarket there was no problem cooking there. Looks like standards are slipping.
