根據氣象局地震測報中心報告指出，從2018年9月至12月，這4個月之內的地震次數驟降，原本每個月平均應該都要有2000起地震，但卻降低到只剩1200、1300左右，明顯感受得到改變！而台大地質系教授陳文山則表示，台灣斷層結構多而且還很複雜，每一條斷層都有活動周期，可是地震不會平均發生，還是得看斷層的活動才能知道。
陳文山還舉921大地震為例，他提到，車籠埔斷層在921發生之前有30年來都沒有過地震，可是921之後的2年內卻發生數萬次地震，所以數據只能參考，可以合理懷疑可能會發生，但科學的角度來看是說不通的。
而且北部本來沒什麼地震，但在年初的時候，在士林、金山等地區竟然發生了4起地震，「這真的蠻異常！」，只是未來會不會有地震，發生時間跟地點都沒人知道，希望民眾可以提高警覺，做好準備。
