Armed Gunmen Rob Swiss Casino Of Six Figure Sum

Armed Gunmen Rob Swiss Casino Of Six Figure SumA gang of 10 men dressed in black clothes and ski-masks succeeded in stealing several hundred thousand Swiss francs from the Grand Casino Basel in Switzerland, before making good their escape across the French border 200 metres away.
Following the armed robbery, Basle prosecutor Peter Gill commented, “The perpetrators knew what they were after. They proceeded quickly, professionally and brutally.”
The incident took place at 4am Sunday morning, when two silver Audi cars with number-plates registered in the Bas-Rhin area of eastern France, pulled up outside the Swiss casino and 10 masked men armed with machine guns and pistols got out of the vehicles.
Immediately, one of the raiders smashed his way through the front entrance using a sledgehammer while another member of the gang ran into the main hall shooting his gun in the air and ordered the room of around 600 guests to the floor.
The first group of robbers then proceeded to the casino’s lower level and after being unable to open up the casino’s vault, succeeded in emptying the cash registers there of any unsecured money. In the meantime, the second group had headed to the casino’s upper level where the gambling tables were located and robbed the cashier located there.
A few moments later both teams had reunited and tried to make good their escape when a woman driver inadvertently got in the way of their getaway. She was subsequently dragged from her car and the path cleared, allowing the gang to then sped away across the border with their ill-gotten bounty.
Following the incident Michael Favrod, a manager at the Grand Royal Casino, said: “This is the first time we’ve been robbed. We are all very shocked. You can prepare for it, but when it happens it’s something else. Thankfully nothing happened to my colleagues or the guests.”
Swiss and French authorities are now pooling their resources to try and track down the perpetrators of the crime.
