Cedric Foo said it best: "I think the opposition could not have chosen a more dissimilar country to compare Singapore with. We are exposed to the sea, exposed to the onslaught of competition to the world. We were dealt a different deck of cards and a different hand together, and we want to find our own formula forward."

Edwin Tong, said: "I therefore urge Singaporeans to meet the government half way. "Singaporeans need to be rational and practical as to the limits within which their ideals are pushed. It would be irresponsible to expect the government to embark on popular policies which might well have short-term gains and political mileage but which have longer-term adverse consequences for Singapore."

Fark Q Edwin Tong!!!! PORLUMPAR

Wp MP Faisal called on the government to do more to address problem gambling. @ least something more practical than Heypiness

Sim Ann complained "Improving on policy implementation, communication, outreach, and working hand-in-hand with the public - these, to me, are the demands of the 'new normal'. "For elected representatives, it means an even heavier investment in constituency work and ground presence."

FARK Q Sim Ann, just go home and give birth if chiu cant TAKE IT

David Ong, said: "As we strive to embrace and make globalisation work for Singapore, we should never neglect segments of society that cannot adapt to this rapidly changing world."

FARK Q David Ong!!!!! GRANDMOTHERHOOD STATEMENT, go wear chiu grandmother PANTIES !!!

Vikram Nair, said: "While I received a warm reception from many, there were also those who told me quite openly they did not support 'my party'.
as usual, keileng skin are damn thick, almos as thick as GMS

Alvin Yeo said that while certain criteria such as serving previously as a minister were clear, others were not. Whole host of non-executive chairmen and hedge fund managers that could harbour hopes of eligibility, should they decide to run for President in 2017

Mr Yeo also asked if criteria should be introduced to require a candidate not to have been a member of a political party for a minimum period of years.

He also felt it is too critical a decision to be left to just the three-member Presidential Elections Committee.

Hri Kumar ask if can allow Singaporeans to sell back portions of their lease to HDB at market value? A 70-year-old couple do not need a 50- or 60-year lease. If they can sell part of their lease back to HDB, say in parcels of five or 10 years, that would give them a decent sum.

goot pt..

Zainudin Nordin said: "CPF grants are helpful but it seems like we are just taking money from one pocket to return it to another. We must seriously consider the pricing formula for HDB flats and seek to make it a transparent one as much as possible.

On healthcare, Dr Lam said: "There is also a need to re-examine the rules governing the use of Medisave. Many Singaporeans feel that it is too restrictive and very often, there may be sufficient amount of Medisave savings but the rules do not allow its use in many instances."

Amy Khor suggested that the government will need to re-double its efforts to demonstrate the humane side of economic growth policies.

FARK Q Amy Khor, thanks for telling us chiu neber work for the past 10 years

Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources, Grace Fu, will be in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Tuesday to attend the 13th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (IAMME).

FARK Q Dis-GraceFu, CHAO GENG, NEBER ATTEND PARLAMENT!!!

Both Sylvia Lim and papies made dumb motherhood statement and general statements...a waste of singaporeans' time and money...and hri kumar made the most ridiculous dumbfark suggestion...sell back the lease to hdb?? who pay?? increase taxes?? make the bloody pricing transparent first leh.

Even b4 the G.E, There were already complaints they were a bunch of puppets.

I think it's you who should read Sylvia Lim's speech more clearly.

She mentioned Bhutan because Singapore was one of the co-sponsors of a resolution initiated by that country, "Happiness: towards a holistic goal to Development", at the UN General Assembly last July. Unless we feel that countries shouldn't believe at least somewhat in the resolutions they choose to support at an international outing, it's rather valid to ask what indicators of happiness our government is adopting. Has nobody noticed that for all the talk about change following the last elections, no concrete indicators have been mentioned? How do you change if you don't even know what it is you want to change?

Ever thought about how Singaporeans cite "the good economy" and GDP growth" as reasons for voting PAP? We speak of the economy and GDP growth like they are ends in themselves, and not means to an ends. It's as though we have replaced the comma in "happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation" with the word "through". I agree that the speech could have been sharper, but the underlying notion isn't all crap.

And for the benefit of Cedric Foo and those Singaporeans who are incapable of noticing anything but the most salient, nobody is comparing Singapore to Bhutan. Of course, we need to find our own way forward, but WHAT is the way? More growth that doesn't trickle down?

What's wrong with her speech? Have you not heard about the Human Development concept which is more holistic than GDP growth?

why cant "the good economy" and GDP growth" be reasons for voting WP...

whut is wrong with strong economy and GDP growth ???

Heypiness is subjective... some like to piak cheekon then heypi, some like to piak duck asshOle then heypi... some like to donate conman then then heypi...

but without $$$ how to be heypi???

cant chiu guys see that PAP is already trying to act more opp by their wayang act ???

they are ready voicing out stuffs that WP is suppos e to say and she the most highprolfile choose to talk about this abstraction???

its this speech where she doesnt mak cow sense and your remark that "the good economy" and GDP growth" as reasons for voting PAP

tha we will always have a PAP govt until we have a party that is more pro biz than PAP (which really practise state captalism rather than real Free market Capitalism)

let "the good economy" and GDP growth" be the reasons to voting WP

You have already demonstrated the kind of blinders that so many Singaporeans have on - GDP growth for GDP growth's sake. Why should GDP growth matter to me if I was an ah em or ah por who has to pick up paper boxes for a living? Or, less drastically, one half of a young unmarried couple who cannot afford a new flat? Will the good economy benefit me in either of these cases?

Read my post again. I never said anything against having a strong economy; what I'm saying is that it is a means to an end, with the ultimate goal of enabling better living standards for citizens. If GDP growth and the good economy isn't sufficiently benefitting people, it doesn't matter if we're growing at 5 percent, 10 percent or 15 percent. And if that was the case, we might as well continue to have the same people in charge.

I agree that happiness isn't necessarily quantifiable, but at the national level, nobody is talking about what makes individual people happy. There have been studies done by international researchers based on the original Bhutanese concept of Gross National Happiness that attempt to measure quality of life, including indices like physical and mental health, work-life balance, social and community vitality, cultural vitality, education, living standards, and good governance. I'm not suggesting that these criteria are conclusive or prescriptive in and of themselves, but it's a lot less shallow than the screwing of chickens and ducks that you alluded to.

[And why stop at screwing chickens and ducks anyway? What about the sadomasochists who enjoy auto-erotic asphyxiation? How narrow-minded not to include them in your calculation of personal fetishes!]

If you want to see a terrible speech, you should check out the strawman filled rubbish Cedric Foo spewed attempting to rebutt Sylvia Lim. It's embarrassing, the kind of shitty MPs the PAP is willing to put up to speak in parliament.

The TS is obviously someone who is never happy. Every of his posts is filled with rage, big bold letters (in red somemore), fark here, fark there, criticizing just about everyone. His/her brain is full of anger, so of course won't understand what SL is trying to say lah. His idea of happiness is also extremely shallow. Just my humble opinion....

I agree with what Annoyed said here. Being a co-sponsor and not doing anything else after that, is just NATO. For starters, the PAP has to take a small step forward to even begin to embrace happinesss as a performance indicator, and then it would be a giant step forward for us to come to a consensus on defining what it is, the basket of 'goodies' in it, and how to measure, metrics etc. Relying excessively on GDP growth and economy as KPI does not guarantee that the trickle-down effect is working. Somehow any Happiness Index will have to take income inequality and distribution into account.
