Cough suppressant like codeine make you cough less but prolong your recovery period. Sometimes even cause build up of phlegm in airways lead to pneumonia
I don't prescribe cough syrup unless patient request then I explain about the above and suggest only take at night so can sleep better. Daytime cough it out
