Shanghai Daily, December 25, 2013
A 54-year-old man surnamed Liao killed his 57-year-old neighbor before committing suicide last night in order to have a chess partner after death, according to the man’s suicide note, Qianjiang Evening News reported.
The neighbor’s body was found by his landlady at his rental house in Jinhua, in southeast China’s Zhejiang Province.
She found the body while collecting rent yesterday and called police. They said they detected evidence of strangulation around the man’s neck, and they found Liao’s body in the next room. There also were two notes and some drugs found in that room, the report said.
The man was thought to have killed himself over family conflicts and killed his neighbor because he was afraid of being alone after death, his notes indicated.
The landlady called Liao unsociable and eccentric, the report said.
