All this nonsense could have been avoided if the DJ/adjudicators had asked for clarification of his answer i.e. repeat the name and clarify his identity - for example, "lead singer of UK 80s pop group Spandau Ballet". This would have removed any avoidance of doubt.

BTW, kudos to Tony Hadley, he needn't have got involved but his intervention clearly made a difference.
